摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a treatment method the surplus lengths of coated optical fibers which is capable of easily treating the surplus lengths of coated optical fibers and improving the operation efficiency in connecting operation of optical cables and a connecting box. CONSTITUTION:Coated optical fiber ribbons drawn out of the cable terminals of the respective optical cables 1 are laminated by each plural sheets to constitute a coated optical fiber ribbon bundle 2. Optical connectors of the laminated coated optical fiber ribbons are coupled to constitute a connector coupling body 3. The connector coupling bodies 3 of the coated optical fiber ribbon bundles 2 drawn out of the respective optical cables 1 are coupled to each other and the coupled connector coupling bodies 3 are fixed to a connector coupling body fixing member 4. At this time, the coated optical fiber ribbon bundles 2 are so arranged that these bundles are drawn out of the respective cable terminals, are passed through the connector coupling body fixing member 4 and are then turned over to arrive at the connector coupling body fixing member 4. The entanglement of the coated optical fiber ribbon bundles 2 with each other is prevented by their rigidity.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a coupling method of optical cables capable of easily positioning and coupling housings at optical cable terminals to each other. CONSTITUTION:Optical connector arrays 3a, 3b are mounted at the housings 1a, 1b disposed at the respective optical cable ends. The end face of the housing 1a is provided with guide pins 2a and the end face of the housing 1b is provided with guide pin holes 2b. Projecting parts 4a, 4b are formed on the outer peripheral surfaces of the housings 1a, 1b. A coupling assisting member 6 is formed to a cylindrical shape having an inner peripheral surface fitting onto the outer peripheral surfaces of the housings 1a, 1b and is formed with groove parts 7a, 7b corresponding to projecting parts 4a, 4b. The projecting parts 4a, 4b of the housings 1a, 1b are connectable in alignment to the positions of the groove parts 7a, 7b of the coupling assisting member 6 in the case of connecting of the optical cables and, therefore, the guide pins 2a do not touch the other optical connector.

摘要： A submarine, optical fiber cable has a central metal wire 10, a slotted plastics rod (11) surrounding the wire, an absorbent sheath 14 surrounding the slotted rod, a plurality of e.g. steel strength members 15 helically wound around the absorbent sheath, a metal e.g. Cu jacket 16 surrounding the strength members and a plastic sheath 18 surrounding the metal jacket. Water entering the cable is prevented from spreading by dams 17 between the members 15. The slotted rod includes peripheral helical slots 12 for receiving optical fiber(s) which may be in the form of a ribbon (13). The slots may contain a water resistant jelly. Each optical fiber has a tensile strain ranging from 0.01% to 0.3% along its axis. The absorbent sheath includes a layer surrounding and contacting the slotted rod for absorbing water. The cable is suitable for operating in deep sea beds for a long period of time, for laying and recovering cables, and for a quick repair. The optical fibers may have a modulated strain distribution in them to suppress stimulated Brillouin scattering therein.

摘要： PURPOSE:To lay the traction terminal part of the optical cable with a connector within a pipeline by reducing the diameter and weight of the traction terminal part of the optical cable with the connector. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate part and end of the exposed cable core part 6 are removed in the terminal part of the optical cable formed by removing an optical cable sheath 19 in the terminal part of the optical cable to expose the cable core part 6 and mounting the connector 8 at a fiber ribbon. A connector holder 10 which has the diameter equal to the outside diameter of the cable core 6 and is housed with the connector 8 in a connector housing space is mounted on a tension member 7 exposed in the intermediate part of the removed cable core part 6. A cylindrical protective member having the inside and outside diameters equal to the inside and outside diameters of the optical cable sheath 19 is then inserted into the position covering the partly left cable core part 6 from the position where the optical cable sheath is removed. A protective cap is mounted onto the cable core part 6 partly left from the end of the tension member 7 and a pulling fitting is mounted at the end of the tension member 7.
