    • A conveyor system having an improved conveyor transfer assembly (10) is provided for transferring articles from the end of a first conveyor to the start of a second, in-line conveyor. The conveying surface of the transfer assembly is formed by rollers (26) driven by a magnetic coupling system (40) which delivers power from an independent power source (44, 46). In addition, magnets (60, 62) are used for providing a positive attachment between the conveyor transfer assembly (10) and the conveyor supports (20) which span between the first and second conveyors. Thus, when an article jam occurs adjacent to the transfer assembly, the positive magnet attachment is overcome and, likewise, the magnetic coupling between the power source (44, 46) and the rollers (26) is also overcome thereby releasing the power connection. This allows the transfer assembly (10) to be bodily lifted and released to prevent damage to the articles. The transfer assembly (10) may also contain a tether (98) connected to the frame to restrain and suspend the transfer assembly following its release.

    • A conveyor system with a roller transfer assembly (30) is provided for transferring articles (C, C', C", etc.) from the end of a first conveyor (11) to the start of a second, in-line conveyor (12). A conveying surface is formed by a plurality of rollers (35) that span substantially across the transfer zone. The conveyor transfer assembly (30) includes a plurality of shafts (35b) extending transversely across the zone, a mounting block (41, 42) at each end for supporting the shafts, which blocks are secured within a holding pan (44). The support for the assembly includes a pair of tabs (50, 51) on each end of the pan that cooperate with a respective pair of open notches (52, 53) on a pair of frame plates (25, 25'). The plates are secured at the ends of the transfer zone to the frame of the conveyor system. A pair of angular slots (57) in the plates allows adjustment of the transfer assembly to allow movement of the articles from one level on the first conveyor (11) to a second level on the second conveyor (12).

The modular links (14) further includes side link portions (24) that are adapted to engage conveyor guide rails (48, 50) integral with a support frame (46). Each side link portion (24) is formed by including a depending arm (32) having a transversely extending tab (34). A locking tab (36) including resilient prongs (39) is placed within a corresponding slot (38) in each side link (24) to retain the cross rod (26). Side rails (80) attached to side rail brackets (82) are provided adjacent the peripheral edges of the conveyor belt (10) to maintain the transported product on the conveyor belt. The side rail brackets (82) include a horizontally extending leg (86) passing through a cross bar (56) that supports the attached guide rails (48, 50). The bore (58) of the cross bar (56) has grooved side surfaces (94) to mate with ridged surfaces (88) included on the horizontal leg (86) of the side rail bracket (82). Support brackets (52, 54) provided at strategic positions assist in supporting the weight of the entire conveyor system (12).

    • A modular link conveyor including a plurality of modular link assemblies (10) made up of links (11) of an improved design assembled to create a closely interdigitating conveying surface is disclosed.     • A conveyor system (10) utilizing substantially V-shaped modular links (14) is disclosed. A plurality of transversely mounted cross rods (20) retain the links (14) together, thereby forming the conveyor belt (12). The apex (16) of each link (14) includes an elongated slot (22) to allow longitudinal freedom of movement to the conveyor belt (12). Special side links (26) are adapted to engage conveyor guide rails (48, 50) integral with a support frame (44). Each side link (26) is formed by including a depending arm (27) having a transversely extending tab (28) on a modular link (26). A locking tap (30) is placed within a corresponding slot (32) in each side link (26) to retain the cross rod (20). The combination of the shape of the links (26) and the longitudinal freedom of movement of the conveyor (12) allows substantially unrestricted motion through curves and bends. In an alternative embodiment, upstanding fins (78) can be provided on one or each leg (18) of a link (14). The angle of the fins to the forward travel gives better lateral support to the product on the conveyor (10). Fins (78) of an increased height can be provided on one or more rows to form a pusher to positively feed the product when necessary such as going up an incline. Trays can be formed by combining rows and columns of links (14) having the fins (78).
