    • A communications device and method of communicating using a communications device is disclosed for transmitting data to a mobile communications network or receiving data from a mobile communications network. The communications device comprises a transmitter configured to transmit signals representing data to an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network via a first wireless access interface and to transmit signals via a second wireless access interface to one or more communications apparatus which can act as relay nodes, a receiver configured to receive signals from the infrastructure equipment of the mobile communications network via the first wireless access interface and to receive signals via the second wireless access interface from the one or more communications apparatus which can act as relay nodes, and a controller. The controller is configured to form a relay assist request message and in combination with the transmitter and the receiver to transmit the relay assist request message on the second wireless access interface for reception by the one or more communications apparatus which can act as relay nodes to assist in communicating signals representing data to the infrastructure equipment via the first wireless access interface. The receiver receives from at least one of the communications apparatus, via the second wireless access interface, a relay response message providing an indication that the communications apparatus can act as a relay node for the communications device, and the transmitter transmits signals representing the data, for transmission to the infrastructure equipment, to the communications apparatus acting as a relay node via the second wireless access interface. In some examples the relay assist request message is transmitted as a broadcast signal to any communications apparatus which can act as relay node. In other examples the relay assist request message is transmitted selectively by the communications device, after receiving an indication of available communications apparatus which can act as relay nodes from the infrastructure equipment. According to this arrangement a communications device is provided with a facility to identify communications apparatus which can act as relay nodes.

    • An infrastructure equipment forms part of a mobile communications network for transmitting data to communications devices or receiving data from communications devices. The infrastructure equipment is configured to receive an indication that data is to be transmitted to one of the communications devices. In response the infrastructure equipment is configured to transmit a first paging message to the communications device to indicate that the communications device is to receive the data via the wireless access interface. If a response to the transmitted first paging message is not received within a predetermined time, then if the infrastructure is able to use a power boosting mode, to transmit the first paging message with a boosted power, or if the infrastructure equipment is not able to use a power boosted mode for transmitting, to transmit a second paging message to one or more communications apparatus which can operate as a relay node for the communications device. The second paging message identifies the relay node and the communications device for which the infrastructure equipment is to transmit the data.

    • A method of operating a relay device to receive data from one or more terminal devices and relay the data to a base station in a wireless telecommunications system. The method comprising receiving a plurality of blocks of data from one or more terminal devices at different times. Each block of data is received in association with an indication of a time by which the block of data should be transmitted to the base station. The block of data are buffered at the relay node. The relay node determines the earliest time by which one of the received blocks of data should be transmitted to the base station and transmits the plurality of blocks of data to the base station together in advance of this earliest time. This can help to reduce signalling overhead associated with transmissions from the relay device to the base station whilst helping to ensure data is not delayed at the relay node for longer than is acceptable for the data.
