    • Disclosed is: a polyester resin which results from the copolymerisation of lactic acid or a compound derived therefrom and isosorbide, and which not only has a high content of compounds derived from biomass but also has outstanding heat resistance and colouration. Also provided is a production method for the polyester resin. The polyester resin is one which results from the copolymerisation of: a dicarboxylic acid component comprising terephthalic acid; a diol component comprising isosorbide in an amount of between 1 and 60 mol.% and ethylene glycol in an amount of between 1 and 90 mol.% with respect to the overall diol content; and lactic acid or a compound derived therefrom in an amount of between 1 and 50 wt.% with respect to the overall resin polymerisation reaction product, and which has a structure involving the repetition of a dicarboxylic acid moiety derived from the dicarboxylic acid component, a diol moiety derived from the diol component, and a hydroxy monocarboxylic acid moiety derived from the lactic acid or the compound derived therefrom.
