    • Conventional materials made by powder metallurgical technology are not particularly resistant to heat and mechanical stresses, in particular impact and friction. A sintered material whose resistance is greater than that of known materials is to be obtained. The particular aim of the invention is to obtain a sintered material suitable for fabricating valve seat rings (16). A process for manufacturing heat- and wear-resistant mouldings, in particular valve seat rings, using the sintered material is also to be obtained. The aim as regards the sintered material is achieved in that the material is a copper-based material consisting essentially of a basic metal powder with a copper content of at least approximately 70 to 100 wt. % of copper and an alloy content of 0 to approximately 30 wt. % of cobalt and/or chromium and/or iron and/or manganese and/or nickel and/or tungsten and/or carbon. The sintered material can be used to manufacture valve seat rings for fuel-burning engines, in particular for internal combustion engines.
