    • The present invention relates to a process and a plant for applying a pulverulent material (21) to a surface of a metal melt in a metallurgical vessel (3), and the use of the plant in a continuous casting plant for producing cast steel products. It is an object of the invention to provide a process and a plant of the abovementioned type, which can be implemented significantly more simply and more cheaply with lesser susceptibility to malfunction compared to the known prior art. A further object of the invention is to reduce dust formation in the introduction of the pulverulent material (21). These objects are achieved by means of the following process steps: - pushing of a shovel (10) into a cone (14) of loose pulverulent material (21), with the shovel (10) taking up a quantity of the pulverulent material (21); - metering of the pulverulent material (21) located on the shovel (10), with a proportion of the pulverulent material (21) being removed from the shovel (10) in a metered manner; - transporting of the shovel (10) and the pulverulent material (21) present therein to the metallurgical vessel (3); and - emptying of the shovel (10) above the metallurgical vessel (3) so that the pulverulent material (21) is applied to the surface of the melt.
