    • The invention pertains to an early detonation device (9) for detonating the propellant charge of an airbag gas generator for a vehicle occupant protection system, based on local thermal heating of the gas generator casing (1). The early detonation device is provided with a container (10) filled with a primary detonating agent (11), e.g. in powder form, which ignites spontaneously at temperatures below 400 DEG C, preferably between 150 and 200 DEG C.
