    • According to the invention, additional information (ZI, ZI*) are transmitted in the time slots (ZS) during protection time (SZ) according to a time division multiple access method (TDMA) between a mobile terminal (MS) and a fixed station (BS) in a communication system. Said information in conjunction with the information (for instance, IF1...IF4, IFx...IFz) contained in at least two successive time slots (ZS) form a continuous information flow (for instance, IF1, ZI, IF2..., IFx, ZI*, IFy...). This makes it possible to increase the effective information transmission rate without extra hardware requirements. Since both the transmitter and the receiver in the terminal and in the fixed station require energy during protection time, said energy is utilized through the additional information transmission in accordance with the continuous information flow. Average energy consumption per information flow is thus reduced, thereby leading to longer operating time (stand-by time) in the terminal.
