摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily arrange the axis in the axisymetric orientation in a desired position and to obtain a liquid crystal display element having a stable wide visibility display mode by forming a recess corresponding to the area having a low conductivity in each color layer. SOLUTION: A conductive layer such as an ITO film or NESA film is formed all over a transparent substrate 1 such as a glass substrate and then patterned into conductive layers (transparent electrodes) 2 of a desired shape insulated from each other by photolithographic method or the like. Then a region having low conductivity, namely, a through hole 3 is formed in the conductive layer 2 for electrodeposition. This hole is preferably formed, for example, to have a square, circular or oval plan view. Then a black matrix (light-shielding layer) 4 is formed and color layers (R, G, B) are formed by electrodeposition. In the electrodeposition process, the substrate 1 having the light-shielding layer 4 formed like a window frame and the lower conductive layer 2 exposed like a window is used as one electrode, and this substrate and a counter electrode are both dipped in an electrodeposition liquid to perform electrodeposition.

As a result, the color filters having the good appearance and finish over the entire part of the colored coating film, excellent uniformity and have the various excellent characteristics required for the color filters are industrially advantageously produced.
