    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display device dissolving a problem of heat generation due to light absorption in incident side and emission side polarizing plates. SOLUTION: Emission light from a light source 1 is reflected in a red color component in the either rotational direction of left/right by a cholesteric liquid crystal 2, and is converted to linear polarization by a λ/4 phase difference plate 11, and a polarization degree is enhanced by the incident side polarizing plate 12. This light is modulated by an image signal of an image forming liquid crystal panel 13 to be made circular polarization by the λ/4 phase difference plate 14 again. In a selectively transmitting cholesteric liquid crystal 4, transmission light of one directional rotation component is obtained by a selective transmission characteristic in the rotational direction. The transmission light is made the linear polarization by the λ/4 phase difference plate 15, and the polarization degree is enhanced by the emission side polarizing plate 16. A blue color component is separated/modulated also in the similar form. Further, a green color component whose either circular polarization component of left/right is taken out by a dichroic filter 8 and the cholesteric liquid crystal 9, and so on, the modulation similar to the red color, blue color is performed. Respective light synthesized by a dichroic mirror 7 are projected by a projection lens 10.

The reflected rightward turn circular polarization is reflected by a paraboloidal surface mirror 5 making a point folding back the second focal point of the elliptic mirror 2 by the plane of the liquid crystal layer 3 the focal point F3 to become the light L7, L8 parallel to an optical axis AX. Since the rotational direction of the polarization becomes an opposite leftward turn at a reflection time, The light transmit through the liquid crystal layer 3 this time to transmit through the flat part with a radius r of the flat concave lens 4. The sum of the transmitting whole light L3, L4, L7, L8 becomes the parallel light with the intensity nearly equal to the same of the light source 1 and with the same rotational direction of the circular polarization. Thereafter, a display image is projected through a λ/4 plate, a liquid crystal panel and a projection optical system.

Thus, the RGB signal from a computer 1 is converted to the composite video signal by an internal synchronization. Based upon the system, it is possible to simplify a circuit so that the switching of the internal synchronization and an external synchronization is performed with one change-over switch.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a malfunction in synchronization change by providing a means which detects whether an outside video signal is inputted or not, a means which detects the state of a synchronization change switch and a means which detects the state of a mode change switch. CONSTITUTION:A signal PIN which represents the presence/absence of the input of the outside video signal is detected by a PIN input detection circuit 9 and a signal INT which represents the changing state of a synchronization change switch 3 is detected by a change logical operation circuit 8. Also, a signal CPU which represents the state of the mode change switch is detected by a mode change signal detection circuit 10. In other words, it is an internal synchronization when it is detected that the outside video signal is not inputted by the circuit 8 and when the inputting of the signal is recognized, it is an external synchronization with the recognition of the selection of the external synchronization at the circuit 9. Also, when a mode except an RGB signal output mode is selected by the circuit 10, it is the external synchronization. Thus, by an automatic synchronization change, the malfunction in the synchronization change can be prevented.
