CONSTITUTION:The monolayer film of a metal oxide such as SiO2 or the laminate film having the topmost layer comprising the metal oxide, is formed on a glass substrate comprising optical glass such as borosilicate, heavy flint or plate glass by a sol-gel method, etc., and subsequently immersed at 50 to 60 deg.C for >=5min in a treating solution containing at least one of a polyalkylenediol of formula I ((n) is 2 to 10) and a polyalkylene glycol of formula II ((n) is 2 to 10; (m) is 1 to 200) in a concentration of >=10wt.% in an organic solvent and having a pH of 7 to 12. The treated glass substrate is lifted up from the treating solution and subsequently washed with water to provide an antifogging glass having excellent antifogging and mar-proof properties.

CONSTITUTION:The monolayer film of a metal oxide such as SiO2 or the laminate film having the layer of the metal oxide at the topmost layer thereof is formed on a glass substrate comprising optical glass made of borosilicate or plate glass by a sol-gel method, etc. The film-formed glass substrate is immersed at 50 to 60 deg.C for >=5min in a treating solution containing an aliphatic hydrocarbon having one or more of hydroxyl groups and a functional group other than the hydroxyl group such as nitroethanol and/or an aliphatic hydrocarbon having three or more of the hydroxyl groups and not having any other functional group such as glycerol, diluted with an organic solvent to give the concentration of the hydrophilic organic hydrocarbon of >=10wt.%, and adjusted to a pH of 7 to 12. The treated glass substrate is lifted up from the treating solution and washed with water to provide the antifogging glass having excellent mar-proof property.

CONSTITUTION:At least Zr and Si alkoxides are dispersed in a solvent such as methanol in such a ratio as to obtain glass consisting essentially of 10-70mol% ZrO2 and SiO2. By the dispersion, a complex compd. of the metal alkoxides is formed and the resulting soln. is made basic by adding a base such as an aq. ammonia soln. The basic soln. is then converted into gel by hydrolysis and the solidified matter is heat treated at 400-900 deg.C to obtain porous glass having 10-70mol% ZrO2 content and 100-400Angstrom average pore size.

Because there is no plateau region in the case of the amorphous phase metal hydride 5, the linearity of temp.-pressure is obtained over a further wide temp. range and the apparatus can be used over a wide temp. range.
