    • PURPOSE:To contrive to improve the mar-proof property of an antifogging glass by treating the metal oxide layer-formed surface of a glass substrate with a treating agent containing an aliphatic hydrocarbon having one or more hydroxyl groups and any other functional group and/or an aliphatic hydrocarbon having only plural hydroxyl groups. CONSTITUTION:The monolayer film of a metal oxide such as SiO2 or the laminate film having the layer of the metal oxide at the topmost layer thereof is formed on a glass substrate comprising optical glass made of borosilicate or plate glass by a sol-gel method, etc. The film-formed glass substrate is immersed at 50 to 60 deg.C for >=5min in a treating solution containing an aliphatic hydrocarbon having one or more of hydroxyl groups and a functional group other than the hydroxyl group such as nitroethanol and/or an aliphatic hydrocarbon having three or more of the hydroxyl groups and not having any other functional group such as glycerol, diluted with an organic solvent to give the concentration of the hydrophilic organic hydrocarbon of >=10wt.%, and adjusted to a pH of 7 to 12. The treated glass substrate is lifted up from the treating solution and washed with water to provide the antifogging glass having excellent mar-proof property.

    • PURPOSE:To contrive to improve the durability of water-repellent glass by silylating the metal oxide-layered surface of a glass substrate with one kind or more of silyl compounds selected from chlorosilane, alkoxysilane and fluoroalkylsilane compounds. CONSTITUTION:The monolayer film of a metal oxide such as SiO2 or Al2O3 or the laminated layer film having the metal oxide layer at the topmost layer thereof is formed on a glass substrate comprising optical glass made of borosilicate crown, heavy flint or plate glass, etc., by a sol-gel method, etc. The glass substrate thus coated with the metal oxide is dehumidified and subsequently immersed in a treating solution containing one kind or more of silyl compounds selected from a chlorosilane compound of formula I, alkoxysilane compounds of formula II, fluoroalkoxysilanes of formula III, etc., or a treating solution containing a solution of the silyl compound diluted with an organic solvent, followed by lifting up the treated glass substrate, drying and heating at 100 to 400 deg.C to produce a water-repellent glass having excellent water- repellency and durability.
