    • A high altitude structure 100 comprises an elongated duct 140. A first aspect comprises a second layer 130 outside the duct forming a space 150 therebetween, a gas having a lower density than the atmosphere outside of the structure, provided by an introducer into the space, which causes the conduit to extend. In a second aspect the gas is introduced into the duct, which extends in an upright orientation. A third aspect comprises a carrier supporting the duct in an upright orientation. In a fourth aspect, the duct has a fixed base and is configured to release a second material stream, and a gas is provided to, and supports the duct in an upright orientation at least one kilometer above the base. A fifth aspect comprises the duct coupled to a base, an orbital anchor in orbit around the Earth, and a tether connecting the two to at least partially support the duct. A sixth aspect comprises at least one duct, each extending at least partially along the structure, configured to vent a material stream, and an additional layer forming at least one void, at least some of which contain a gas and provide buoyancy to the structure. A method of providing a high altitude conduit comprises generation of a signal to start an introducer which provides a gas into an interior space of an elongate inflatable in response to the signal, the inflatable extending in a substantially upright orientation in response to the introduction of gas, before forming a conduit.
