    • The present invention relates to a content output system capable of outputting contents, and a method for sharing codec information in order to output contents in the same system. The present invention comprises the steps of: when a media server for providing contents, a media renderer for outputting the contents, and a control point are connected with each other, sharing codec information of contents provided by the media server and codec information of contents to be reproducible by the media renderer; and providing, by the media server, contents to the media renderer in accordance with the shared codec information. According to the present invention, it becomes easy to share multimedia contents between multimedia devices based on various DLNA standards that have been recently set. In addition, it is possible to verify a codec fluidly-supportable by each multimedia device through pieces of pre-stored information, and each multimedia device can easily access multimedia contents further in various formats.
