    • According to embodiments of the present invention, a barcode scanner platform is provided in which the gain of an analog signal representative of a barcode is controlled using a control loop. In embodiments, an MTF detector generates a value (e.g., DC) representative of a low frequency portion (wide or out of optical focus elements) of the analog signal and a second value (e.g., DC) representative of a high frequency portion (narrow elements or in optical focus elements) of the analog signal. The processor uses the first and the second values and a reference amplitude to determine a gain signal. The processor provides the gain signal to an AGC circuit that provides a linear response to the gain signal using matched JFETs. A noise filter can be enabled or disabled based on the first value, the second value, and/or the barcode scanner platform read rate.

    • A computer-implemented method includes receiving, at a computing device, a request from a user device to access requested data. Based on the request, a reader object is selected that specifies data access information associated with accessing data from a particular data source. Computer-implementable access code is dynamically instantiated to access the requested data from a data source based on the reader object and the request. A data access request is sent to the data source based on the computer-implementable access code. The requested data is received from the data source and a presentation object is selected that specifies data output information associated with the reader object. Computer-implementable output code is dynamically instantiated to output the requested data based on the presentation object. Output data, including the requested data, is sent to the user device in a presentation format specified by the computer-implementable output code.

    • A disclosed portable settings service for use in conjunction with a multimedia content distribution service includes enabling a user to define settings for aspects of a multimedia content delivery network (MCDN) client. The service may include storing the defined settings to a settings file. The service may further include enabling the user to designate any of a set of multiple MCDN clients and, in response, applying the settings in the settings file to the designated MCDN client. In some embodiments, the settings application operates in conjunction with a user interface that enables the user to modify the defined settings. The user interface enables the user to modify the defined settings while interacting with a first customer premises equipment (CPE). Enabling the user to designate any of a plurality of MCDN clients may include, in some embodiments, enabling the user to designate a second CPE that is different than the first CPE.
