摘要： In an information recording system, a semiconductor laser is energized in response to a drive current which is modulated in accordance with a recording signal in a recording mode so that a modulated laser beam is generated from the semiconductor laser. The modulated laser beam is focused on an optical disk and is reflected from the optical disk and the reflected laser beam is detected by an photo-detector. A detection signal from the detector is compared with a predetermined threshold level by a binary circuit and a relationship between the recording signal and an output signal from the binary circuit is detected by a detection circuit. In a overwrite mode in which the laser beam is focused on a pit or pits on the optical disk, an overwrite detection signal is generated from the detection circuit and the overwrite detection signal is counted by a counter circuit. When the counter circuit counts a predetermined count value, the counter circuit generates a recording inhibition signal for preventing the semiconductor laser from generating the modulated laser beam.

摘要： In a device for recording or reproducing information by using a light beam, there is provided an optical disk comprising a base plate, a recording layer formed on the base plate, tracks provided for recording information on the recording layer, and a focus check area for checking if the light beam is focused at the optimum position on the recording layer when an optical head which generates the light beam faces the recording layer. Accordingly, it is possible to change the focus position for the recording layer of the optical disk by the objective lens of the optical head during recording and reproducing information. Also, it is possible to set it at a position where the bit error rate is smallest and has a wider margin for the shaft of the adjust position.

摘要： Channel data obtained from a reproduced signal is input to a demodulation ROM as an address and demodulated. In the demodulated channel data, the data whose data pattern is not consistent with a 2-7 modulation method is recognized as an error data. When a resync code, given in the channel data at every 15 bytes is not detected within a predetermined time period, a resync code undetected signal is generated. The demodulated data is arranged in a matrix, and the position of the error data in the matrix and the resync code undetected generation position are specified. An error correction circuit carries out the error correction (erasure correction) by using these positions and an error correction code relating to one direction of a row or a column of the matrix.

摘要： The recording scheme of an optical disk is initially determined by a cartridge identifier housing the optical disk. The optical disk is then rotated at a rotational speed corresponding to the initially determined recording scheme, and a signal processing circuit is switched. Management data recorded on the optical disk is read to also determine the recording scheme, thereby improving the reliability of the determination. When no management data can be read, a recording scheme and associated rotational speed are changed. The management data representing the recording scheme is then read according to the changed recording scheme. A medium type determined based on the management data has priority over that of the medium type obtained by the identifier of the cartridge.
