    • The telephone system of the present invention is realized by a unique dynamic time slice architecture which allows for up to 480 transfers of data. A dual port RAM is utilized in which are stored two pages of data, containing time slice information identifying the sending and receiving devices for each time slice slot within the frame. The time slice configuration can be easily modified to accommodate a change in the current system configuration, for example, a handset connecting or disconnecting from a central office line, or the initiation of a conference call. The time slice configuration is modified by updating the second page and swapping the two pages at the beginning of the next frame so that the time slice controller accesses the second page and the configurations specified therein. Thus the system can be updated and controlled in real time with no delays to the users of the telephone system. The telephone system of the present invention further provides a dynamic conferencing capability which can accommodate a large number of users with no additional circuitry and little additional system overhead. The conferencing circuit linearly combines digitized audio data received from different sources over successive time slice slots in a single frame on a real time basis wherein parties can be added or removed simply by adding or removing the connections to the time slice slots.

    • Disclosed is a device which can utilize, as an input signal, the solution to mathematical problems from an analog computer or which can be used directly with a process that is governed by a mathematical problem to pictorially depict the solution to the problem. The problem being solved can be dynamically displayed on a device such as a conventional television receiver for use by a student, technician or the like. The input signal indicative of the solution of the mathematical problem is fed to a memory and control device which can store the same for subsequent use. The memory also has stored therein data representative of the images necessary to create the pictorial representation of the problem. A programmable device, preferably in the form of a digital computer, interprets the input signals and directs the data in the memory so that it is properly displayed on the television receiver.

    • A transaction execution system includes a host data processing system having a multiple account data base and a plurality of transaction terminals in communication with the host. The terminals each include a keyboard, a display, document handling subsystems, a hardware control subsystem, a communication subsystem and a programmable control subsystem supervising the other subsystems. A user initiates a transaction request by inserting a card into one of the terminals. After reading acceptable account identification information from the card the terminal requests entry of a preassigned personal ID number through the keyboard. The ID number is encrypted by the terminal at least once and communicated to the host along with information read from the card and entered via the keyboard. The host accesses from its stored data base an encrypted ID number corresponding to the received card information and makes a verification comparison of the stored encrypted ID number with the encrypted ID number received from the terminal. By requiring the entry of a nonencrypted ID number at a terminal while storing only encrypted ID numbers at the host, the correspondence between credit card account information and ID numbers need be known only to a few key personnel having access to both the encryption algorithm and a particular key therefor.
