    • A dowel bar inserter kit has removable attachment to and from a slipform paver. The kit includes a track bolster on each side having a crossbeam tying the bolsters together at the rear of the inserter. Each bolster is provided with two flange attachments to the paver, typically one flange attachment to the frame and one flange attachment to the jacking column of the paver. These paired attachments of each side bolster assure the kit maintains the same overall level maintained by the rectilinear frame of the paver during paver travel. Each bolster defines support car tracks. These support car tracks enabling inserter support cars to travel on the tracks during machine paving. During dowel bar placement, the support cars remain stationary with respect to the formed slab while the slip form paver continues with its required forward motion. These support cars also enable vertical up and down movement to permit insertion and removal of the dowel bar inserters from the recently formed slab. Insertion of dowel bars occurs through a dowel bar inserter pan, which pan is maintained at an adjustably constant vertical distance from the support cars through a system of telescoping beams and winches. A chain feeder is supported from the dowel bar inserter pan and operates to dispense dowel bars from a feeding mechanism, which is contained within the paver profile as defined by the machine tracks.

    • A dowel bar inserter kit is used, typically in combination with a paver. The dowel bar inserter kit is removably detachable from the paver and includes at least two laterally extending support beams supported from the paver extending away from and behind the paver over the formed plastic concrete slab. A plurality of support carriages move synchronously on each laterally extending support beam towards and away from the supported frame of the paver. A suspended dowel bar inserter pan is attached at distal ends to the support carriages, the suspended dowel bar inserter pan defines apertures for insertion of dowel bars through the suspended dowel bar inserter pan. The dowel bar inserter pan has a medial dowel bar insert pan hinge to enable the suspended dowel bar inserter pan to crown with respect to the freshly placed plastic concrete slab. An inserter beam is supported at distal ends to the support carriages. The inserter beam has dowel bar inserters corresponding to the apertures for the insertion of dowel bars through the suspended dowel bar inserter pan. The inserter beam has a medial inserter beam hinge to enable the suspended dowel bar inserter beam to crown with respect to a corresponding crown in the suspended dowel bar inserter pan.

    • A twin shaft “compulsory mixer” having a capacity in the range of twelve cubic yards has a static mixing chamber bottom defined from two horizontally disposed and interfering cylindrical shapes. Two centrally disposed elongate rectilinear discharge gates are each defined from an end in the bottom of the static mixing chamber to abut at the middle of the static mixing chamber. At the middle bottom of the static mixing chamber, a tensioning rod is placed extending normally across the abutted ends of the two rectilinear slots. Two eccentrically mounted elongate rectilinear gates are mounted for movement into and out of sealing relation to the rectilinear slot centrally of the static mixing chamber. These gates are mounted centrally of the mixing chamber to a block and spherical bearing arrangement and actuated at the respective static mixer chamber ends by conventional piston drives. Reducing the gates in length, reduces deflection making chamber sealing possible. Further, the tensioning rod adjusts for chamber deflection. Finally, the eccentrically mounted elongate rectilinear gates can be rotated in opposite directions to deposit concrete on opposite sides of a concrete off-loading and elevating conveyor. Discharge of mixed concrete at maximally controlled rates can occur in a balanced fashion to an underlying conveyor for elevation and discharge from the large capacity compulsory mixer forming the foundation of the portable modular plant.

    • A concrete paving machine which has a main frame and two hydraulic jacking columns at each end of the frame for raising and lowering the machine frame. Crawlers attached to the jacking columns move the paving machine in the travel direction. A paving kit is secured to the main frame and has a rigid center portion. Each terminal kit has an end frame secured to the center portion, an adjustable length support structure between the end frame and the slipform, and a hydraulic actuator. Spacers are interposed between the end frame and the slipform. A finishing pan is provided to finish the concrete surface. All replaceable components of the terminal are constructed and arranged so that they can be manually exchanged be one or two persons without removing the paving kit from the main frame and without needing the help of lifting equipment.

    • A paving machine for spreading, leveling and finishing concrete having a main frame, center module, bolsters laterally movably, and a crawler track associated with respective aft and forward ends of the bolsters. A bolster swing leg for each crawler track supports an upright jacking column. A worm gear drive permits rotational movements of the crawler track and the jacking column. A hinge bracket is interposed between each swing leg and a surface of the bolsters to enable pivotal movements of the swing leg. A length-adjustable holder engages the pivot pin on the hinge bracket and pivotally engages the swing leg. The holder permits pivotal motions of the swing leg in its length-adjustable configuration and prevents substantially any motion of the swing leg in its fixed-length configuration. A feedback loop cooperates with transducers keeping the crawler tracks position. The paving machine can be reconfigured into a narrowed transport configuration.

    • A paving machine that moves in a travel direction and spreads, levels and finishes concrete into a form having a generally upwardly exposed, finished concrete surface that terminates in lateral sides. The paving machine has a main frame with first and second bolsters arranged at opposite ends of the main frame. Each set of bolsters has two hydraulic jacking columns used to raise and lower the machine frame. Crawlers attached to the bottom of the jacking columns engage the ground and move the paving machine in the travel direction. A pair of support beams is attached to the inner surface of each bolster and supported in passageways of a center module of the tractor frame. To extend the maximum width of the paving machine without having to extensively disassemble it, the free ends of the support beams extend beyond outer sides of the bolsters when the distance between the inner sides of the bolsters is at its minimum. This paving machine width adjustment can be performed in the field by moving the bolsters and the support beams attached to them inwardly or outwardly with the crawlers of the paving machine. Also provided is a laterally extendable/retractable cross beam for movably supporting a dowel bar inserter kit on the paving machine.

We thus disclose a strike off beam with spreader plow assembly which can be removably attached to either side of a placer/spreader to avoid the necessity of relocating the receiving conveyor when the location of the access road changes from one side to the other or direction of spreading changes. We additionally disclose a method of operation the strike off beam from a placer/spreader to prevent the accumulation of excess concrete the path of the following paver.

A roll in/roll out conveyor has a receiving end for receiving already mixed concrete from an access road and a discharge end for discharging already mixed concrete to the subgrade path, this conveyor being hinged to enable conformation to differing access road elevations. One of the two side bolsters defines forward and rear transport attachment points with a spatial interval between the transport attachment points. This spatial interval permits the roll in/roll out conveyor to be supported between forward and rear attachment points.
