    • A device for and a method form a barrier comprised of a distributed zone of fluid in a filter of a smoking article. The device includes a container for a fluid which forms a wet impact barrier when inserted into the smoking article, and a delivery feature communicating between the container and an outlet of the delivery feature, for transfer of the fluid to filter of the smoking article. The delivery feature is formed by a tube of significantly lesser diameter than the diameter of the smoking article. The combination of container and delivery feature provides for placement of a defined quantity of fluid at a predetermined location within the smoking article, such as by injection through a side wall of the filter in the vicinity of the filter/tobacco boundary.

    • Antenna systems for transmitting and receiving electrical signals in two widely separated frequency bands are provided which comprise a helix antenna and a parasitic element which is adjacent to the helix antenna. The parasitic element is positioned so that when radio frequency energy in the higher of the frequency bands is incident on the antenna system, the helix antenna and the parasitic element are capacitively coupled, while when radio frequency energy in the lower of the frequency bands is incident on the antenna system, the helix antenna is substantially isolated from the parasitic element. The effective aperture of the antenna system is preferably substantially the same in both of the frequency bands of operation, and the parasitic element may be positioned either inside or outside of the helix antenna, and may be parallel to the major-axis of the helix, or alternatively, may be positioned diagonally so as to only be adjacent to two or more windings of the helix antenna. Additionally, the antenna system may be implemented in combination with a radiotelephone having a transmitter, a receiver, a user interface, and an antenna feed system.

    • An antenna configuration for a flip type mobile phone is disclosed. The antenna configuration is designed to reduce, to a hearing aid compatibility (HAC) M3 rating or better, any scattered EM field effects that can cause interference to an active hearing aid. The antenna configuration comprises a halfwave type antenna extendable from the lower portion of the mobile phone. The antenna does not share the same vertical axis as the lower portion of the mobile phone when extended. Rather, it forms a tilt angle (α) that extends the antenna away from the upper portion of the mobile phone creating a greater separation distance between the speaker and the antenna. An antenna feed contact couples the antenna to components within the mobile phone. An antenna matching network can tune and attenuate the antenna configuration to enhance operation in the GSM frequency bands.

    • A mobile station includes an adjustable member for increasing a separation distance between an audio signal output device and an electronic circuit to reduce EMI proximate the audio signal output device caused by the electronic circuit. In one embodiment, the adjustable member comprises a slide member that extends at least a portion of the audio signal output device away from the electronic circuit to increase the separation distance. In another embodiment, the adjustable member comprises a pivot member that rotates the electronic circuit (or audio signal output device) away from the audio signal output device (or electronic circuit) to increase the separation distance. In any event, increasing the separation distance between the audio signal output device and the electronic circuit decreases the EMI proximate the audio signal output device, and therefore EMI effects on external circuits proximate the mobile station, such as a hearing aid.

    • An antenna structure is comprised of a body, an antenna element coupled with the body, and an arm support coupled with the body and the antenna element. The arm support also includes a recessed portion on one side adapted to receive a two-sided customizable plate. The customizable plate is made of a non-metallic material. The customizable plate is further adapted to fit within the recess and can be adhered to the recessed portion of the arm support. The customizable plate can also be graphically customized to display a viewable image. In addition, the customizable plate can be imprinted with a metallized pattern on the side that faces the recessed portion when seated in the arm support. The imprinted metallized pattern can beneficially affect the performance characteristics of the antenna element.
