摘要： A hopper for a cigarette-packing machine has a number of vertical channels each accommodating a single column of cigarettes, with their axes horizontal. Plungers reciprocating across the lower ends of the channels remove a selected number of cigarettes from each channel during each forward stroke. During each return stroke of the plungers, vanes interdigitated with the plungers support the cigarettes in the channels above the plungers, said vanes lowering before the next forward stroke of the plungers to control descent of the cigarettes on to a base plate.To allow faster operation of the hopper without increasing the speed of vane lowering so that cigarette descent is not sufficiently controlled, the plungers are pivotally mounted to permit them to be downwardly inclined during their return stroke and then allow vane lowering to begin earlier in each operating cycle. The base plate may also be pivotally mounted, and downwardly inclined during the plungers' return stroke to increase the angle of inclination possible for the plungers.

摘要： In apparatus for feeding blanks for hinged lid packets, the blanks are supported in a stack by two pairs of pivotal claws which operate alternately so that at any given time only one pair of opposed claws supports the stack. A plunger device, having a central and two tiltable outer sections, engages the lowermost blank by suction and bends down opposite ends of the blank through a small angle, thus progressively withdrawing the blank from the stack.In a modification one pair of claws is replaced by fixed ledges, and a fixed finger is associated with each pivotal claw.

摘要： A rotary mechanism for cutting and/or sealing a web has a pair of counter-rotating rotors mounted on parallel axes and having radially projecting arms between which the web is momentarily gripped for cutting and/or sealing. Sealing is performed by heated pressure outer faces on the rotor arms. Cutting is performed by cutter and anvil bars on the opposed arms engaging the web. Bearer faces on the arms beyond the pressure faces set a gap between the pressure faces and a rectangular-section tongue and groove in mating contact faces one side of the pressure faces locate the pressure faces laterally. The cutting means are adjusted by a wedge bar bearing on the inner face of the cutter bar or anvil. The wedge bar is movable in the direction of rotation and has an outer face inclined in the same direction. Means accessible from the leading and/or trailing faces of the rotor arms are provided for adjusting the wedge bar and clamping the cutter and anvil bars.

The web is engaged by conveyor bands which pass around the cutter and anvil drums and form a continuing conveying path for the web away from the drums. The conveyor bands are clear of the article shapes cut in the web which can thus be positively separated from the web by pusher means to be drawn away from the web by their own conveying means.
