    • A lighting control device for controlling the state and intensity level of at least one lamp. The device includes a user-actuatable intensity selector for selecting a desired intensity level between a minimum intensity level and a maximum intensity level, a control switch for generating control signals representative of preselected states and intensity levels of the lamp in response to an input, and a control responsive to the intensity selector and the control switch for causing the lamp to fade from an off state to the desired intensity level when the input from a user from a user causes a single switch closure of transitory duration, such fade occurring at a first fade rate, fade from any intensity level to the maximum intensity level when the input from a user comprises two switch closures of transitory duration in rapid succession, such fade occurring at a second fade rate, and fade from the desired intensity level to an off state when the input from a user comprises a single switch closure of more than a transitory duration, such fade occurring at a third fade rate, each of such fade rates being non-instantaneous.

    • A radio frequency antenna for use with a wall mounted transmitter and/or receiver for receiving and/or transmitting signals adapted to control a control device and/or indicate status of the control device. The antenna includes an insulating substrate sized to fit within an area defined by a faceplate sized to cover an outwardly facing opening of an electrical wallbox. Conductors are disposed on both sides of the substrate forming a capacitive component. At least one of the conductors is adapted to radiate radio frequency energy into the environment. The one conductor is electrically coupled to the other conductor, and the one conductor has a pattern such that the conductor is absent in areas so as to provide the antenna with an inductive component. The at least one conductor further provides a connection to the transmitter and/or receiver. The antenna provides an antenna near-field which is substantially at the edges of the substrate and which provides insubstantial electromagnetic field coupling to an electronic circuit disposed adjacent the antenna connected to the antenna and further provides a radiated field substantially isotropic in the antenna far-field.

    • A repeater for use in a two way communication system for retransmitting information between a first device and a second device to help ensure reliable two way communication between the devices, comprising: a transmitter/receiver, the transmitter/receiver receiving signals from the first and second devices and transmitting the received signals for reception by the respective first and second devices; and further wherein a direct communication path for the information between the first and second devices is provided, the direct communication path being intermittently unreliable, the repeater providing an additional path for the information between the first and second devices; the repeater being spaced from said first and second devices by a specified distance, said specified distance being significantly less than a theoretical maximum communication distance thereby to ensure communication reliability. A plurality of repeaters can be provided in the system as the overall system expands when additional first and second devices, such as master units and control devices, are added. The plural repeaters employ a repeater transmission sequence in order to ensure reliability of communication. In addition, the repeaters build a bit map of status information received during the repeater sequence to ensure that all status information is received by each master unit.
