    • A method of fabricating a cylindrical device comprising having at least one distinct outer layer comprising providing a preformed rigid cylindrical support drum having a predetermined outer circumference, a first end and a second end, providing a flexible belt having an inner circumference at least about 0.05 percent smaller than the outer circumference of the support drum, circumferentially expanding the belt with a flowing fluid under pressure until the circumference of the inner surface of the belt adjacent the first end is stretched to a new dimension at least about 0.1 percent greater than the outer circumference of the support drum while maintaining an elongation strain less than the elastic limit of the belt, sliding the belt onto the support drum from the first end toward the second end of the support drum until substantially all of the belt encircles the outer surface of the support drum and terminating the flow of the flowing liquid to allow the belt to contract onto the outer surface of the support drum. The fluid may either be a gas or a liquid. The cylindrical device fabricated by this process is preferably an electrostatographic imaging member. This electrostatographic imaging member may be utilized in an electrostatographic imaging process.

    • Disclosed is a method for forming a latent electrostatic image on a photosensitive device comprising a grounded conductive substrate having on its surface a layer of photoconductive material which is in turn overcoated with a layer of insulating organic resin. The method involves applying an initial electrostatic charge of one polarity to the surface of the photosensitive device followed by the steps of:1. applying to the surface of the photosensitive device an electronic field of direct current having a polarity opposite to that of the initial electrostatic charge, and, either simultaneously or sequentially, exposing the device to imagewise activating radiation;2. uniformly exposing the device to activating radiation; and3. applying an electrostatic charge of the same polarity as that of the initial charge to the surface of the photosensitive device to thereby simultaneously erase the electrostatic charge from the device and initially charge it as the first step in the next cycle.

    • Disclosed is a method of forming a latent electrostatic image on a segment of an electrostatographic photosensitive device which comprises a grounded conductive substrate having a layer of photoconductive material on its surface which is in turn overcoated with an insulating organic resin. The method comprises:A. applying an initial electrostatic charge of one polarity to the surface of the photosensitive device,B. advancing the segment of the photosensitive device toward a corona emitting grid which is wider than the segment selected,C. activating the grid when the trailing edge of the segment reaches the lead edge of the grid to thereby apply an electronic field of either alternating current or direct current of polarity opposite that of the polarity of the initial charge,D. exposing the segment to imagewise activating radiation in the full frame flash exposure mode while continuing to apply the electronic field thereto;E. continuing the advancement of the segment past the corona emitting grid while continuing the application of the electronic field thereto until the lead edge of the segment reaches the rear edge of the grid and then deactivating the grid; andF. forming an imagewise potential distribution across the insulating layer by uniformly exposing the segment to activating radiation.
