    • A transducer for indicating position in space with reference to a coordinate system includes a magnetic field source (13), a movable button element (11) composed of a magnetically susceptible material having a central pole face (16) and a surrounding annular co-planer pole face (19) for providing uniform magnetic flux paths in the annular region between and extending from the plane of the respective pole faces, and a probe element having a plurality of sensor units (41a-d) for electronically measuring magnetic flux through a plurality of separate, geometrically congruent areas arranged around an axis of symmetry (24) in a sensing plane which is spaced from, and parallel to that of the pole faces of the movable button element. The relative position of the button element in a plane perpendicular to the axis of symmetry is determined by electronically adding and subtracting the different measurements of magnetic flux through the respective areas, while the relative proximity of the sensing plane of the probe element to the pole face plane of the button element is determined from total magnetic flux measured by all of the sensors.

    • The present device relates to a thread clamping device including a plurality of movable segments with threaded inner surfaces suitable for engaging a threaded rod and including a strain gauge therein for measuring the actual strain on the device, in contrast to conventional thread clamping devices restricted to measuring the torque applied during installation, not the actual strain experienced during service. In addition to measuring the actual strain experienced by the thread clamping device, some embodiments of the present invention also relate to a transmitter for transmitting to a remote receiving station the actual strain measured, typically including a suitable identification code for determining which device is transmitting.

    • The present invention relates to a thread clamping device including a plurality of movable nut segments around a threaded rod, and spring members flexibly holding the segments against the rod. The thread clamping device has a structure adapted to accommodate substantially planar outer surfaces of the segments engaging planar surfaces of the end housing of the device, leading to a more robust device and improved performance. Such a thread clamping device can advantageously be used as a component of a self-adjusting shrinkage compensation device, a coupler for threaded rods, hold-downs, among other uses.
