    • A conveyor apparatus for moving a slurry line supported above the ground by a plurality of wheeled carts which are interconnected by one or more linkages, through a 180.degree. bend by having a disc journaled to a platform through the axis of the disc. Notches are formed in the periphery of the disc for receiving a wheel and a portion of the cart which extends outward from the linkage. Linkage retaining means extends from the periphery above and below the linkage and traps the linkage against the disc during the 180.degree. bend. On each side of the platform, below the linkage is attached a guide means to insure that the linkage is properly positioned both vertically and horizontally for mating with the linkage engaging apparatus which is attached to the disc periphery.

    • Rotary process and apparatus for drilling a borehole through a subterranean formation in which the path of a rotary drill bit is varied by deflecting the drill string in response to the pulsating flow of drilling fluid through the drill string. The pulsating drilling-fluid flow is synchronized with the rotation of the drill string by generating a function representative of the rotational position of the drill string and, in response to this function, diverting a portion of the drilling fluid through a secondary line. Flow through the secondary line is controlled by a valve which is opened and closed in synchronization with the rotational position of the drill string. The diverted fluid is supplied to the drilling fluid source for recirculation.

    • A process for controlling the direction of advance of a generally horizontal borehole extended through a subterranean coal-bearing formation by a rotary drilling operation. As the drill string is rotated in the hole, the advance of the drill bit is guided along a designated path by repeatedly deflecting the drill string from its axis in a constant radial direction. The drill string may also be centralized and the deflection operation carried out either within or outside of the drill-pipe segment between the bit and the centralizer. A deflection unit includes a plurality of deflector pads disposed about the periphery of a segment of the drill pipe. The deflector pads are cyclicly actuated to sequentially place each pad in an extended position at a constant rotational position of the drill pipe segment.

    • In a low profile crusher which has first and second cylindrical rolls journaled so that the rotational axis of the rolls are parallel and an input conveyor and an output conveyor is improved by journaling the first roll so that the distance from the axis of the first roll to the product side of the output conveyor is slightly greater than the radius of the first roll. The input conveyor is mounted over the first roll so that the distance between the axis of the first roll and the return side of the input conveyor is slightly greater than the radius of the first roll. The second roll is journaled above the first roll so that the maximum height of the second roll is at least equal to the height of the product side of the input conveyor and close enough to the first roll to produce a predetermined maximum size of product. A scalping method for the above is formed by mounting the input end of the input conveyor in substantially the same plane as the output conveyor. The mounting for the input of the output conveyor is under the input conveyor and a grating is mounted under the input conveyor so that at least a portion of the product of a predetermined maximum size or smaller on the input conveyor falls to the output conveyor and does not pass to the crusher.

    • A hopper assembly is combined with a two-roll crusher unit to form a combination which not only mixes the product with the fluid but also crushes the product slurry prior to its entry into the pump. The combination essentially comprises a hopper formed by constructing an open-top tank having horizontal dimensions which are greater than the vertical dimensions and having interconnected walls and sidewalls and a bottom tapered downwardly toward one end wall. Water is fed into the tank adjacent the higher end of the bottom. The granular solids are fed into the tank from the top adjacent the higher end of the bottom. A plurality of partitions is placed across the tank extending down into the water to limit the flow of water in the upper portion of the tank, thereby minimizing wave action. Water level sensors are also mounted in the tank to maintain the water at a predetermined level in the tank. The crusher unit consists of two rolls, each having a plurality of spaced peripheral teeth. The rolls are journaled across the opening which is formed in the lower end of the tank. The rolls are journaled and motor driven so that material flowing between the rolls will be moved in the direction of the outlet.
