    • A repeater is configured so as to detect feedback oscillation conditions by detecting a gain parameter, and responding to the detected gain parameter by reducing the gain when the loop gain approaches unity. When used in a framed shared channel wireless communication systems, feedback oscillation conditions the loop gain of the repeater may be adjusted so as to permit operation of the repeater outside of the oscillation range. The invention is particularly useful when the repeater is used in a framed shared channel wireless communication system.

    • The invention includes methods and systems for use in a wireless communications system, such as a CDMA mobile communications system. A communications device transmits a wireless signal. A repeater system receives a first version of the wireless signal using a first receiver system and receives a second version of the wireless signal using a second receiver system. The repeater system switches between the first version of the wireless signal and the second version of the wireless signal to generate a third version of the wireless signal. The repeater system transmits the third version of the wireless signal and a base station system receives the third version of the wireless signal. In some embodiments of the invention, the wireless signals are Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) signals. In some embodiments of the invention, the switching occurs at a rate of 4 MHz.

    • An RF switch is used in the signal path to an amplifier, for example between a receiving antenna and an amplifier. The switch is used to alternately connect the amplifier between a normal signal source for the amplifier and a fixed load for calibration. The power difference between the two switch states at the output of the amplifier would then yield a calibrated measurement of a signal value, such as rise over thermal (RoT). The amount of time spent in the calibration position is maintained at a minimized level so as to reduce impact on the normal operation of the amplifier. The invention provides an ability to estimate traffic load in a repeater system based on RoT measurements of repeater reverse-link output power by determining a reverse link gain.
