    • A ureteral stent for assisting movement of urine along a patient's ureter and into the patient's bladder. The stent includes an elongated tubular segment extending toward the bladder from a kidney end region for placement in the renal cavity to a bladder end region. A central lumen connects at least one opening at the first end region to at least one opening in the bladder end region. Thin flexible tail(s) are attached to the bladder end region of the tubular segment at a point outside the bladder so as to receive urine from the opening in the bladder end region of the tubular segment and to transport urine from there across the ureter/bladder junction and into the bladder. The tails include an elongated external urine-transport surface sized and configured to transport urine along the ureter. The urine transporting surface(s) are sized and configured to extend along at least part of the ureter, across the ureter/bladder junction, and from there into the bladder.

    • Large diameter catheters for drainage of body cavities and infusion are disclosed. A removable assembly comprising a stiffening cannula, hollow dilator and wire guide facilitate insertion, reduce trauma and reduce the risk to delicate tissue. The distal tip of the stiffening cannula interfaces with a shoulder within the catheter adjacent to the tip, and insertion is accomplished by application of axial pressure on the cannula which is transmitted to the catheter via the shoulder. The tapered tip of the dilator conforms to and reinforces the pliant tip of the catheter during insertion. The catheter includes a branch line for infusion and sampling.

    • An anticoagulant-coated dipstick is selectively receivable by the central fill port of a rotor of a blood centrifuge. The dipstick includes an elongated, rod-like member having a first axial end and an opposite second axial end, and a cap affixed to the second axial end. At least a portion of a surface of the rod-like member is coated with an anticoagulant. The elongated rod-like member of the dipstick is dimensioned in length and diameter to be receivable through the central fill port of the rotor to contact a blood sample contained therein. The cap is circular in shape, with a diameter that is greater than that of the rotor fill port to entirely cover and seal the fill port to prevent leakage therethrough of a blood sample contained in the rotor, especially when the rotor is gently agitated or inverted.

    • The invention features a device for obtaining tissue samples from a site deep within the body having a proximal portion constructed to follow a long torturous path to the site and a distal portion constructed with a jaw arrangement that can be opened and closed to sever a sample, including tissue specimens, polyps and the like, from the surface. The device is constructed for severing and storing at least three successive samples. The device includes a sample storing and retaining element in the space encompassed by the jaws. The element is fixed to maintain an orientation extending generally distally along a selected length to a distal end and has a profile along the length for engaging multiple samples arranged axially in the order in which they were severed from the surface with sufficient frictional force to substantially retain the samples from moving distally from the space encompassed by the jaws when the jaws are opened to sever a successive sample from the surface.
