    • 22,453. Robinson, T., Robinson, R., Boyd, T. B., and Lunney, G. Oct. 11. Pressure-regulating valves.-Relates to a selfacting reducing-valve of the type described in Specifications No. 3999, A.D. 1878, No. 16,766, A.D. 1884, and No. 5350, A.D. 1890, for high-pressure fluids such as steam and compressed air, and especially applicable in connexion with water mains. The high-pressure inlet nozzle A leads into the high-pressure chamber B, which is formed with a collar H having passages I. The spindle E, working through the collar H, terminates at the highpressure end in a valve disk J abutting on the nozzle A, and terminates at the low-pressure end in a piston K working in the chamber C. The intermediate chamber D, which is open at the top, is provided with an outlet N for detecting and carrying away any leakage of the fluid. The joint between the chambers B, D is made tight by means of a compression ring L which embraces the spindle E. The chambers B, C communicate with one another through a pipe (not shown) connected to the nozzles F. A stop P limits the movement of the spindle. The areas of the nozzle A and piston K are inversely proportional to the pressures at the high-pressure and low-pressure ends respectively. The valve J therefore remains closed so long as these pressures remain unaltered. Any reduction of pressure in the chamber C causes the valve to open momentarily and so produce a re-adjustment of the pressures. The valve disk J may be retained in position by means of a screwed cap Q.
