    • In the preparation of pharmaceutical composition for treatment of vascular diseases primarily with endothelial cell origin, fungal desferri-siderophores are used. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) preparing desferricoprogen group of formula (I), desferrichrome group of formula (II) and desferri-triacyl fuzarinine C involving culturing fungi on culture medium containing mineral salts, carbon and nitrogen source and purifying siderophores from the liquid medium. The fungi strains (S1) are selected from Penicillium chrysogenum, Penicillium roqueforti, Neurospora crassa, Penicillium roqueforti, Ustilago sphaerogena, Ustilago maydis, Neovossia indica, Aspergillus ochraceus or Aspergillus melleus; (2) introduction of siderophores into the siderophore containing meat-products involving mixing directly into the pasta isolated siderophores, or mixing directly into the pasta (S1), or introducing on the surface of the meat-products water solubilized (S1) during the curing step; and (3) qualification and quantification of siderophore content of meat-products involving comparing to the required siderophore amount of a healthy individual. R1H, 1-6C alkyl or 1-4C hydroxy-alkyl; R2R1 or 1-6C alkanoyl;and R3-R51-6C alkyl or 2-6C alkanoyl substituted by one or two hydroxy or carboxy. ACTIVITY : Vasotropic; Antiarteriosclerotic. The protective effects of desferricoprogen against human low density lipoprotein oxidation was determined as follows: Human low density lipoprotein (LDL) was isolated from plasma derived from ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) (1 mg/ml)-anticoagulated venous blood. Heme-mediated oxidation of LDL was obtained by reacting LDL (200 mg/l protein), heme (5 mu M), hydrogen peroxide (75 mu M), 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazine ethanesulfonic acid (HEPES) buffer (10 mM), and desferricoprogen (10-250 mu M) for 2 hours at 37[deg] C. Results showed that desferricoprogen inhibited the conjugated diene generation by prolonging the initiation phase of the lipid peroxidation. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
