    • Techniques for selecting a radio interface for an application are described. A terminal identifies locally-addressable and globally-addressable wireless networks among wireless networks available to the terminal. Radio interfaces supported by the terminal may be prioritized based on the locally-addressable and globally-addressable wireless networks, information obtained for the application, the application type, etc. Different applications may have different radio interface preferences or requirements, which may be considered in prioritizing the radio interfaces. A suitable radio interface may be selected for the application based on the prioritized radio interfaces. WLAN interface may be selected for the application if (a) the WLAN interface is preferred and any WLAN is acceptable to the application or (b) a globally-addressable WLAN is available. A WWAN interface may be selected for the application if a globally-addressable WLAN is not available.

    • Techniques for graceful coexistence of modules supporting multiple communication protocols (210, 220) are described. Graceful coexistence may be achieved by giving priority to a communication protocol having high priority data (310, 320) to send or receive. In one design, the priority of data to send via a wireless channel by a first module (210) for a first communication protocol (e.g., IEEE 802.11) may be determined, e.g., based on data type, one or more data protocol header fields, an application originating the data, etc. Whether to send the data without delay may be decided based on the priority of the data. A second module for a second communication protocol (e.g., Bluetooth) may be requested to not transmit (220) on the wireless channel in response to a decision to send- the data without delay. The data may be sent via the wireless channel upon receiving an indication that the wireless channel is not occupied by the second module.

    • The present invention is directed toward distribution of web content to personal cellular telecommunications devices. The present invention proposes compiling syndicated items compilation files containing the entire contents of one or more syndicated information files and/or status notification compilation files containing a list of one or more syndication feeds and status information regarding same. Both types of compilation files can be Point-To-MultiPoint (P2MP) pushed to all available personal cellular telecommunications devices in one or more cells selected by a cellular operator using standardized P2MP push technology. Alternatively, status notification compilation files can be P2P pulled by or P2P pushed to particular personal cellular telecommunications devices. The present invention also proposes offering accessing full stories in formats other than conventional web page formats. Such non web page formats include inter alia SMS, MMS, email, and the like.
