摘要： An interface architecture and protocol are provided for transferring messages between a plurality of devices. The architecture provides the capability to generate a plurality of service messages according to a single message format, and to transfer the service messages between a plurality of control points or service entities according to an efficient multiplexing protocol. The control points can be software applications or device drivers running on a terminal equipment device, and the service entities can be communication services such as network access services or device management services running on an attached data communication device such as a modem or a cellular phone.

摘要： System, methods, and apparatuses are described that facilitate a first device to transmit/retransmit a message to a second device. The first device transmits a first message to the second device. The first device then receives a second message and identifies a hit of the second message indicating an originator of the second message. If the bit indicates the first device as the originator of the second message, then the second message is an echo of the first message, Reception of the echo indicates that the second device is in a sleep state. Accordingly, the first device waits for the second device to wake and retransmits the first message to the second device to ensure that any packets lost during the original transmission of the first message (when the second device was asleep) are now retransmitted while the second device is known to be awake.

摘要： System, methods, and apparatuses are described that facilitate a first device to transmit/retransmit a message to a second device. The first device transmits a first message to the second device. The first device then receives a second message and identifies a bit of the second message indicating an originator of the second message. 摘要： Method and apparatus for automatic distribution of device drivers. The method provides for a combination removable memory card and modem. Device drivers are stored in a memory portion of a PCMCIA card. Upon insertion into an access device the drivers may be automatically loaded onto the access device, permitting users to immediately utilize the device without having to load device drivers from a separate CD-ROM. Embodiments allow for a PCMCIA card with a switch that may be set to the "install" position on first insertion of the card into an access device. The user removes the card and re-installs the PCMICA card, which now acts as a modem. Additional embodiments allow for an automated process, with device drivers loaded automatically using an auto-execution script or an executable file.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for signal scanning and acquisition for multiple-air-interface devices are discussed. In particular, scanning of a location for signals from one or more local service providers is carried out, wherein scanning is operable to detect signals based on at least a first air interface and a second air interface, such as CDMA and UMTS, respectively. A list of local service providers detected from the scanning is assembled to allow a user to select a connection to at a local service provider from the list. Thus, a user is afforded the ability to see all service provider signals in the location, for all bands and air-interfaces supported by the modem on a user's multiple-air-interface device. The user may therefore acquire connection more easily without having any prior knowledge about the area or its service providers, and regardless of the type of air interface originating the local signals.
