摘要： Beacons may be grouped to facilitate neighbor discovery in a wireless network. For example, neighboring access devices such as IEEE 802.11 access points may cooperate to transmit beacons in a group. In this way, a wireless device seeking to discover the neighboring access devices may scan for the beacons for a shorter period of time. An indication may be provided to enable a wireless device to more efficiently scan the beacons. For example, the indication may indicate the channel the wireless device should scan to receive the next beacon that is to be transmitted. In addition, the indication may include information relating to the transmission time of the next beacon.

摘要： Techniques to support beamforming for stations in a wireless network are described. In one aspect, a station may support beamforming with implicit feedback or explicit feedback by having capabilities to transmit and receive sounding frames, respond to training request by sending a sounding frame, and respond to request for explicit feedback. In one design of explicit beamforming, the station may send a first frame with a request for explicit feedback and may also send a Null Data Packet (NDP) having at least one training field but no data field. The station may receive a second frame with the explicit feedback, which may be derived based on the NDP. The station may derive steering information (e.g., steering matrices) based on the explicit feedback and may then send a steered frame with beamforming based on the steering information. The station may also perform implicit beamforming using NDP for sounding.

摘要： Techniques for performing open-loop rate control in a TDD communication system are described. The channel quality of a first link is estimated based on a transmission received via the first link. The channel quality of a second link is estimated based on the estimated channel quality of the first link and an asymmetric parameter. At least one rate for a data transmission via the second link is selected based on the estimated channel quality of the second link. The estimated channel quality for each link may be given by a set of SNR estimates for a set of transmission channels on that link. The asymmetric parameter may be determined based on (1) the capabilities (e.g., transmit power, receiver noise figure, and number of antennas) of the transmitting and receiving stations or (2) received SNRs for the first and second links.

摘要： Techniques for selecting rates for data transmission on eigenmodes of a MIMO channel are described. An access point transmits an unsteered MIMO pilot via the downlink. A user terminal estimates the downlink channel quality based on the downlink unsteered MIMO pilot and transmits an unsteered MIMO pilot and feedback information via the uplink. The feedback information is indicative of the downlink channel quality. The access point estimates the uplink channel quality and obtains a channel response matrix based on the uplink unsteered MIMO pilot, decomposes the channel response matrix to obtain eigenvectors and channel gains for the eigenmodes of the downlink, and selects rates for the eigenmodes based on the estimated uplink channel quality, the channel gains for the eigenmodes, and the feedback information. The access point processes data based on the selected rates and transmits steered data and a steered MIMO pilot on the eigenmodes with the eigenvectors.

In an aspect, a source station sends a frame with a buffer status for a recipient station during an awake time for both stations and sends one or more data frames to the recipient station as indicated by the buffer status. The recipient station knows how many data frames to expect based on the buffer status and can go to sleep after receiving the expected number of data frames. In another aspect, a source station receives a frame with information on transmission opportunity (TXOP) bursting receive capability of a recipient station operating in a power save mode. The source station performs channel access at the start of a TXOP and sends multiple data frames in the TXOP to the recipient station based on the TXOP bursting receive capability of the recipient station.

The station may detect for synchronization based on, e.g., percentage of first transmission failures, counters indicative of statistics of transmitted frames, and/or other information. The station may confirm synchronization of its traffic, e.g., by monitoring for traffic from another station during a service period for the station. The station adjusts transmission of its traffic when synchronization is detected to avoid collision with the traffic of the other stations. The station may delay transmission of its traffic by a predetermined amount of time, by a pseudo-random amount, or until after the other stations finish their transmissions.

摘要： Techniques to improve the standby time of a station in a wireless network are described. An access point may advertise or convey a maximum listen interval and/or an association timeout supported by that access point. A station may operate in a power-save mode and may wake up every listen interval to receive a beacon and any potential traffic for the station. The station may select a suitable listen interval based on the maximum listen interval. The station may be dormant for a longer duration than the listen interval and may become active at least once in every association timeout in order to keep the association with the access point alive. The access point may also send broadcast and multicast traffic that might be of interest to stations in the power-save mode less frequently and using a special indication message.
