    • System(s) and method(s) are provided to facilitate generating and processing acquisition pilots in wireless communications. Acquisition pilots that convey timing and frequency synchronization information, wireless system acquisition and system determination information are modulated with pseudorandom sequences. The R bits of information carried by the acquisition pilot that conveys system determination information are augmented with T bits that convey a counter index associated with the system timing of superframes transmitted from an access point. The processing overhead resulting from the addition of the T bits is offset by the advantages afforded to a wireless communication. Salient advantages include: (i) processing gain at a receiver for communication in a specific sector during asynchronous operation, (ii) packet boundary determination through the counter field values, and (iii) initialization of various pseudorandom registers employed for communication.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate defining control channels and resource identifiers related thereto as well as constraints for utilizing the control channels. A minimum number of required control reports for a set of resource indices can be specified as a constraint to provide a mobile device flexibility with respect to transmitting the control reports over available resource indices. Additionally, or alternatively, a maximum number of control reports can be specified for transmitted over the resource indices to prevent control channel overload. Moreover, a constraint can specify an exact number of control channels to utilize in transmitting control reports. Other constraints are possible as well, such as limiting a control report payload or change in payload, limiting out-of-band control reports based on in-band reports transmitted, etc.

    • Signaling is efficiently sent on a configurable CDMA control segment. To send signaling, transmission parameters for the CDMA control segment for a serving sector are determined. These parameter may indicate the CDMA control segment size, the frames in which the CDMA control segment is sent, the signaling channels to be sent on the CDMA control segment, and so on. The enabled CDMA signaling channels for a terminal and the average transmission interval for each enabled CDMA signaling channel are determined. For each frame in which the CDMA control segment is sent, the signaling channels to be sent on the CDMA control segment in that frame are determined. The signaling for each signaling channel is processed (e.g., encoded, channelized, scaled, and scrambled). The processed signaling for all signaling channels is combined and mapped to a time-frequency region used for the CDMA control segment in the frame.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that provide efficient channel assignment and communication for a wireless communication network. System resources can be allocated for a traffic channel for communication between a base station and a terminal in a physical layer frame, a portion of which can be made available for an acknowledgement channel. Resources for the acknowledgement channel can then be allocated such that the resources allocated for the acknowledgement channel occupy only a portion of the resources available for the acknowledgement channel within the resources allocated for the traffic channel. By scheduling the acknowledgement channel such that it occupies only a portion of the resources available to it, traffic data and acknowledgements can be communicated in the wireless communication system on their respective channels more efficiently.
