Multiple ranging signal measurements are obtained from each signal source using either temporal, spatial and/or frequency diversity. In one embodiment, the multiple ranging signal measurements are combined using a metric to obtain a single ranging signal measurement. The location determination solution is then calculated using the single ranging signal measurement. In a second embodiment, a location determination solution is calculated for each of the multiple ranging signal measurements to result in multiple location determination solutions. A metric is then used to combine the multiple location determination solutions to result in a single location determination solution.

摘要： Wireless devices and techniques providing improved system acquisition in an environment of multiple co-existing technologies over a common frequency band are disclosed. In one aspect, at a remote terminal, a power spectral distribution (PSD) of received signals is sequentially measured in contiguous segments of a frequency band of interest. One or more characteristics of the measured PSD is compared to at least one predetermined metric to identify the presence or absence of at least one technology type of the received signals in frequency locations across the band. A system acquisition operation is performed in accordance with the identification, such as a tailored scan of channels at locations where a desired technology is identified.

In one example, a method for reducing power consumption in a mobile device includes receiving movement information, establishing movement data based on the movement information, determining if the mobile device is stationary using the movement data; and reducing the frequency of searching for a base station when the mobile device is stationary. In another example, a mobile device which reduces power consumption based upon movement data includes an RF front end, a receiver coupled to the RF front end, a data demodulator coupled to the receiver, a searcher, coupled to the RF front end and the receiver, which searches for base stations, and a processing unit coupled to the searcher, wherein the processing unit controls the searcher based upon the stationarity of the mobile device.
