    • A method of improving video performance in video surveillance system having a wireless encoder connected to a video surveillance network by a wireless access point device comprises the steps of allocating channel bandwidth to the wireless encoder from the wireless access point device, transmitting packets of video data from the wireless encoder to the wireless access point device, transmitting signals from the wireless access point device to the wireless encoder, monitoring the strength of the signals received by the wireless access point device, the strength of the signals received by the wireless encoder, and the number of lost packets of video data transmitted from the wireless encoder to the wireless access point device, sending a request from the wireless encoder to the wireless access point device to change the bit transmission rate of the wireless encoder if the strength of the signals received by the wireless access point device is less than a first threshold, if the strength of the signals received by the wireless encoder is less than a second threshold, or if the number of lost packets of video data is greater than a third threshold, and changing the bit transfer rate of the wireless encoder if the wireless access point device approves the change.

    • An exemplary access station for wireless communications includes: a wireless input/output unit that is configured to establish multiple access points; and signal transmission/reception coordination logic that is capable of ascertaining that an access point of the multiple access points is receiving a signal and that is adapted to restrain at least one other access point of the multiple access points from transmitting another signal responsive to the ascertaining that the access point is receiving the signal. An exemplary method includes: monitoring multiple respective indicators acquired from multiple respective baseband units; detecting whether at least one respective indicator of the multiple respective indicators is affirmatively indicating that a signal is being received; and if so, providing at least one instruction to at least two medium access controllers of multiple respective medium access controllers, the at least one instruction restraining the at least two medium access controllers from causing a transmission.

    • Disclosed embodiments include a system and method for prioritizing access requests from a plurality of remote units, wherein the access requests are requests for uplink access in a fixed wireless network. In one embodiment, the system receives an access request from at least two remote units. The system also receives a priority request from the remote units, which may be separate or related to the access requests. The system analyzes the access requests based on the priority requests and determines which remote units will be granted uplink access to the network. The system then transmits an indication of at least one remote unit that is allowed to transmit on an uplink channel. In one embodiment, the access request and priority request are encompassed within two or more tones transmitted from a remote unit. Many other alternatives and alternative embodiments are also disclosed.
