    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide, as a nanocomposite material including a starch and a clay having a high flaking degree as main components, a nanocomposite material endowed, for example, with improved properties, led by an advanced transparency, improved mechanical and rheological characteristics, and/or mitigated water (humidity) sensitivity and suitable as packaging materials and for other applications.SOLUTION: The provided nanocomposite material is prepared, as a virtually exfoliated nanocomposite material including: a starch; a hydrophobically modified laminar silicate clay; and water accounting for 5 wt.% to 30 wt.% of the weight of the nanocomposite material; based on a melting method in which water is added at an eventual calculated concentration of 10-50 wt.% with respect to the weight of the nanocomposite material. This nanocomposite material is endowed with improved mechanical and rheological characteristics and mitigated water sensitivity in the sense of the water intake and/or loss rate thereof being low.
