    • The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of an aqueous two-component polyurethane-forming composition bya) dispersing in water a polyisocyanate which has an isocyanate content of at least 12% by weight andb) also blending with water either before, during or after dispersing the polyisocyanate, a polyhydroxyl compound whichi) has a molecular weight of 62 to 10,000,ii) contains at least two hydroxyl groups,iii) is water soluble or water dispersible,iv) does not contain urea or urethane groups andv) is selected from the group of polyesters, polylactones, polycarbonates, polyethers, polythioethers, polyacetals, polyether esters, polyester amides and polyamides,wherein the equivalent ratio of isocyanate groups to aqueous groups is 0.8:1 to 6:1.The present invention is also directed to the aqueous composition prepared by this process and to its use as a binder for fiberglass.

    • The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersions with improved hydrolytic stability by(a) forming an aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersion, optionally by chain extending an aqueously dispersed isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, containing carboxylic acid groups neutralized with volatile organic bases,(b) converting the volatile, organic base-neutralized carboxylic acid groups to nonvolatile cation-neutralized carboxylate groups by adding alkali metal salts of organic or inorganic acids having a pKa greater than 0 to the aqueous polyurethane-urea dispersion of (a) in an amount sufficient to displace at least a portion of the volatile organic bases and, optionally,(c) removing the volatile organic bases by distillation, optionally under reduced pressure.The present invention is also directed to the products produced by this process.

    • This invention relates to processes for the production of symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer products, and to the symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer products produced by these processes. These processes comprise coating fertilizer granules with compounds which react to form urethane coatings which contain terminal isocyanate groups, followed by polymerization of these urethanes to form symmetrical polyurea-urethanes. Suitable compounds comprise a) an organic polyisocyanate component, and b) an alkanolamine component containing at least one tertiary amine group and at least one hydroxyl group. These compounds are present in sufficient quantities that the molar ratio of isocyanate groups to isocyanate-reactive groups is from about 1.6:1.0 up to about 10.0:1.0 in each encapsulating layer. It is necessary that sufficient amounts of these compounds are applied to the fertilizer granules such that the symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer particles contain from about 0.5 to about 15% by weight of polyurea-urethane, based on the total weight of the encapsulated fertilizer particles.
