    • An adjustable headgear assembly (10) for securing a respiratory interface device (26) to the head of a patient that includes a headgear member (12) that fits over the crown and back portion of a human head. The headgear member (12) has upper side portions (14) positionable above and forward of the ears of a human head and lower side portions (16) positionable below the ears and along the back portion of the head. A pair of upper retention members (20) are provided. Each pair of upper retention members (20) extends downwardly and forwardly from the upper side portions (14). A pair of lower retention members (30) extend forwardly and upwardly from each of the side portions. Each pair of upper (20) and lower (30) retention members are structured to engage a respiratory interface device (26).

    • A patient interface device (10) that includes a mask (12) and a headgear component (18) for attaching the patient interface device to the head of a patient. The headgear component includes a strap (20) and an attachment element (22, 40, 60, 80) provided between the mask and the strap. The flexible linkage portion is more flexible than both the mask attachment portion and the strap attachment portion to enable the mask attachment element to flex, bend, and/or twist along multiple axes to conform to particular facial contours of the patient.

    • A deflector mechanism (20) for use with a respiratory interface device (8) is provided. The interface device includes a cushion (8a), a mask frame (8b) supporting the cushion, a patient circuit (6) coupled to the mask frame adapted to carry a flow of gas, and an exhaust port (10) integrated in the frame and/or the patient circuit for venting exhaust gases (12) from the respiratory interface device. The deflector mechanism includes a deflector portion (24) having a surface (25) and a mounting portion (22) that couples the a deflector to the frame and/or patient circuit such that vented exhaust gases contact the surface of the deflector portion. The deflector portion is structured to modify sound created by the venting exhaust gases. The deflector portion is also structured to selectively direct the exhaust gases without an addition additional restriction, i.e., a greater pressure drop, to the flow of the exhaust gases.
