    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a light-receiving means for generating a synchronizing signal of a laser scanner and to generate the synchronizing signal, having a high characteristic by easily adjusting the pitch in the light-receiving means.
      SOLUTION: The optical scanner comprises a synchronization signal generating circuit which generates the synchronization signal for scanning a photoreceptor face, by deflecting a light beam emitted from a light source and synchronizing a scanning on an optical scanning means, on the basis of a light receiving signal obtained by receiving with a light-receiving means. The light-receiving means comprises a single PD (photodiode) 5, having a light-receiving face that has the desired length in a scanning direction with the light beam LB and a mask 51, arranged on the light-receiving face side of the PD 5 and having a plurality of slits 511 arranged in the scanning direction with the light beam. The synchronization signal generating circuit generates synchronization signal, on the basis of the light receiving signal obtained when the light beam passed through the slits is received by the light-receiving element. The light-receiving signal, corresponding to a desired resonance frequency, is obtained by adjusting the pitch dimension of the slits, and the structure of the light-receiving means is simplified.

The signal width of a received signal output from the photodiode 12 is varied by the deviation in the position of the laser beam in the subscanning direction and the deviation in the position is detected with the signal width.
