摘要： A thin film optical waveguide made of a polymeric waveguiding film supported on a substrate, the film being made of a homopolymer of vinylpyridine or of a derivative or vinylpyridine in which the pyridine heterocyclic nucleus is substituted. Alternatively, a copolymer containing a major proportion of vinlypyridine, or of said derivative thereof, may be used in the film. A layer of a material having a lower refractive index may cover the film. The polymer may be modified to increase its capacity for refractive index variation in response to an electric field, by inclusion in the structure of the polymer of at least one optically nonlinear moiety. The polymer may also include cross-linking. The thin film optical waveguide may incorporate a laser dye in the film, for use with laser devices.

摘要： An electrically responsive composite material (1110) specially adapted for touch screen, comprising a carrier layer (1301) having a length and a width and a thickness (1303) that is relatively small compared to said length and said width. The composite material also comprises a plurality of electrically conductive or semi-conductive particles (201). The particles (201) are agglomerated to form a plurality of agglomerates (104, 1403) dispersed within the carrier layer such that each said agglomerate comprises a plurality of the particles (201). The agglomerates are arranged to provide electrical conduction across the thickness of the carrier layer in response to applied pressure such that the electrically responsive composite material has a resistance that reduces in response to applied pressure.

摘要： An electrically responsive composite material is disclosed, along with a method of producing an electrically responsive composite material, a transducer having a substrate for supporting a flowable polymer liquid and a method of fabricating a transducer. The electrically responsive composite material produced is configurable for application in a transducer. The method includes the steps of receiving the flowable polymer liquid and introducing electrically conductive acicular particles (1501, 1502) to facilitate the conduction of electricity by quantum tunneling. Dielectric particles (1505, 1506) are added of a size relative to the acicular particles such that a plurality of these dielectric particles are dispersed between adjacent acicular particles.

摘要： A novel and practical process to convert the oily sludge from food industry and waste water treatment into a non-oily feed product in dry and free-flowing form for animal applications is provided. The combination of an alkaline agent to encapsulate the oily sludge into a non-oily form and a particulate material to provide solid surface as a carrier is used to convert the oily sludge into a non-oily wet paste or particle form. Then a drying process with a commercial dryer is applied for producing an animal feed product in non-oily, dry and free-flowing form. The animal feed product retains a fat level, which is generally higher than normal animal feed products, but in an easily handled, non-oily, non-sticky, free-flowing and dry form. The process of the invention converts the problematic food waste sludge with oily, sticky and wet properties into the useful nutritional products with the improved properties. The process in the present invention is practical and economical to be used, which could resolve the problem from these oily sludge materials, save and create millions of dollars for food and feed industries and waste water treatment plants.
