摘要： A user's (client) computer sends a request for a listing of applications which can be downloaded from a server in an electronic marketplace and a list of functions provided by a host program. A description of an application, such as in an application manifest, provides a list of required functions and, preferably, a list of optional functions for a software application. The server sends a list of applications supported by those functions. Those supported applications are displayed to the user as being available for downloading. The user selects the desired application and the user's computer requests, and the server provides, a download of that application. The downloaded application will then operate on the user's computer using the required functions provided by the host programs, and may use any optional functions provided by the host programs.

A state of a contextual computer workspace, including the window views and content thereof, is captured. Upon capturing a state of a contextual computer workspace, an indication to access the contextual computer workspace is received. The state of the contextual computer workspace is restored and the restored state is then output to communicate the contextual computer workspace to the user.

A printer device may include a dedicated input that, when actuated, generates and sends a request to a computer for known data or a predetermined print job, e.g., schedule information from a personal information management (PIM) application. A scanner device may include another dedicated input that, when actuated, automatically scans a document fed to the device by the user and sends the scanned image to IM (or other) software on a computer, bypassing the need to manipulate the scanned image using scanner software. The device may be used with printed metapaper, which includes a barcode or other indicia identifying the metapaper and corresponds to a stored template image of the metapaper. When the metapaper is rescanned, the scan can be compared to the stored template information to identify changes and synchronize the changes with the IM software.

摘要： Systems and methods for software licensing enforcement using an ACPI BIOS. A digital license is provided that includes information about both the software and hardware on which it is to be run. The licensing process receives hardware and software information from the end user and binds the license to both. A main BIOS binary contains code and static motherboard specific data. Dynamic state values containing, e.g., machine-specific system management data, such as, a serial number may be stored subsequently on NVRAM or its equivalent. The main BIOS binary allows provides sufficient functionality to test the hardware. Once the software to be loaded on the system is known, a corresponding digital license containing both the software and hardware information is loaded to NVRAM.

The metadata provides a set of business terms to the user and the information required to generate an application from those terms. The user either selects terms from the list or enters new business terms to describe the business problem they want the application to automate. The application builder analyzes the terms the user provides and uses the metadata associated with those terms to select, generate and combine business application components. The result is a functioning business application.
