    • In an assembly station (16) a carcass sleeve (12) and an outer sleeve (15) manufactured along respective building lines (10, 13) are mutually coupled.     • An apparatus (100) for manufacturing tyres for vehicle wheels, each tyre comprising a carcass structure (2) formed starting from at least one carcass ply (2a) laid on a forming support (50) extended along a longitudinal axis (X- X). The apparatus (100) comprises at least one device (110) for positioning at least one annular anchoring structure (10) on at least one end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2), the positioning device (110) being circumferentially extended around the longitudinal axis (X-X) of the forming support (50) and axially movable with respect to the forming support (50) between an operating position distal from the forming support (50) and at least one operating position close to the forming support (50). The apparatus (100) further comprises a device (140) for turning up the end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) around the annular anchoring structure (10), the turning up device (140) being circumferentially extended about the longitudinal axis (X- X) of the forming support (50) and axially movable for approaching/moving away to/from the forming support (50). The positioning device (110) and the turning up device (140) are radially expandable/contractible in a synchronous manner with respect to the longitudinal axis (X-X) of the forming support (50) and are settable in a plurality of different operating radial positions, each operating radial position being selected based on a respective radial dimension of the tyre to be manufactured.

    • A process for manufacturing tyres for vehicle wheels, comprising the step of building on a forming support (50) a carcass structure comprising at least one carcass ply (2) and, at at least one end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2), at least one annular anchoring structure (10) comprising at least one substantially circumferential annular insert (11) and at least one filling insert (12) associated to said at least one substantially circumferential annular insert (11). The step, of building the carcass structure, comprises the steps of positioning the annular anchoring structure (10) on the carcass ply (2) by moving the annular substantially circumferential insert (11) into contact with an end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) by means of a special positioning member (110), pulling down the filling insert (12) on the end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) and turning up a free end portion (2b) of the end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) so as to form a turned up end portion (20) of the carcass ply (2) including said annular anchoring structure (10). According to the invention, the pulling down of the filling insert (12) on the end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) is carried out by a special pulling down member (120) while the substantially circumferential annular insert (11) is retained into a contact position with the end edge (2a) of the carcass ply (2) by said positioning member (110).

When the calculated whole number (n) of strip-like elements (13) is an odd number, before at least one application step, the first laying unit (18) is shifted along an adjustment path (C-C) orthogonal to the geometric rotation axis (X-X) and substantially tangent to the radially external laying surface (14) of the forming drum (11).
