      SOLUTION: A variable valve mechanism 9 is provided with a slide member 52 equipped with a helical spline for input 47 and a helical spline for output with different angles on the outer periphery surface. The amount of lifting an air intake valve 6 is changed by changing the difference in opposite rotating phase of an input member 22 and an output member 32 by the mating of helical splines by sliding the slide member 52 in the longitudinal direction of a supporting shaft 21. The variable valve mechanism 9 has a shaft center X of the helical spline for input 47 installed eccentrically from a shaft center Xo of the supporting shaft 21 so that when the valve lift of the air intake valve 6 is changed, the timing for maximizing the valve lift is also changed.
