摘要： The essential part of an endoscope system is constructed from a medical observation device, a medical image processing device, and a monitor. A CPU (22) of the medical image processing device has function sections that are a three-dimensional model estimation section (22a), a detection target region setting section (22b), a shape feature amount calculation section (22c), a three-dimensional shape detection section (22d), a threshold decision section (22e), and a polyp decision section (22f). The construction enables execution of processing that is appropriately adapted to an observation state of a two-dimensional target image, and this improves detection accuracy in detecting a lesion having the shape of a local protrusion.

The value of a detection standard as a threshold value when detecting a polyp as an elevated lesion from an elevation change region on the curved face of the three-dimensional shape is changed depending on the results of the above-described detection. Thus, a polyp can be detected with high accuracy.
