    • A cap (16) is provided for the type of injection device (1) which presents a needle assembly (11) to the exterior thereof for removal after use. The cap is of two part construction with a shell (17) of hard material, having opposite inwardly flexible tongues (19) defined by slots in the shell, and an over-mould (18) of relatively soft deformable material, extending over at least the tongues and the slots. The tongues are squeezable towards each other through the over-mould to grip the needle assembly when the cap is fitted after an injection, thus enabling the needle assembly to be removed with the cap so that the user does not come into contact with the used needle.

    • A disposable syringe assembly for use in an autoinjector device, or manually comprises a syringe housing (22) which receives said syringe barrel and which is restrained against longitudinal movement with respect thereto, a shield portion mounted (30) for generally telescopic movement relative to said syringe housing between a retracted position and an extended position in which in use it shields said syringe needle, and a lock out arrangement activated as said shield moves towards its extended position to prevent retraction therefrom.     • An autoinjector device comprises an elongate housing (10)containing a syringe or cartridge (12)having an internal piston for expressing a dose from the syringe or cartridge. A drive mechanism includes a drive member (18) for engaging said piston and a drive spring (20) or the like acting on the drive member. A side-operated trigger arrangement includes a retention element (22) movably mounted in the housing from a retaining position in which the drive member is kept in a cocked condition, and a release position in which the drive member may more forwardly under the influence of the drive spring. An outer sleeve(24)is mounted on the housing movable between a position in which the retention element is prevented from moving to release said plunger, and a position in which said retention member is free to move. The outer sleeve includes a trigger wall portion (28) which may be depressed to move the retention element once the retention element (22) is free to move, thereby releasing the plunger.

    • An injection device has a main drive module which can screwed into the back of a syringe housing (12) to prepare the injector ready for use. The drive module has a firing button and a drive plunger released for forward movement by pressing the firing button. The syringe housing slideably receives a syringe holder (36) whose forward movement is initially prevented by internally directed barbs (46) on a cylindrical latching sleeve (42). The latching sleeve is acted upon by a release ring (50) on the drive module such that as the drive module is screwed onto the syringe housing, the release ring splays the cylindrical shell to release the syringe carrier for forward movement. The barbs (46) also act as a latch to capture the syringe carrier in its rearward position when the drive module is unscrewed from the syringe housing, which returns the barbs (46) to their initial position before the syringe holder returns to its initial position.

    • An injection device comprising a main housing (4) defining a first screw thread (20) and a plunger comprising a leadscrew (19) and a cap (11) rotatably attached to the leadscrew such that, in use, the cap engages a bung of a cartridge containing medicament. A drive gear is mounted within the housing for rotating around the leadscrew to drive the plunger axially through the housing when the leadscrew is locked against rotation with respect to the housing. A cartridge housing (2) is also provided for holding a cartridge containing medicament. This housing defines a second screw thread (27) for engagement with said first screw thread in order to secure the cartridge housing to the main housing. The device further comprises a locking mechanism (26,28) which is actuated when the cartridge housing is secured to the main housing and which locks the leadscrew against rotation with respect to the housing. Cooperating features are provided for allowing the leadscrew to rotate relative to the cartridge housing during attachment of the cartridge housing to the main housing whilst allowing relative rotation of the engaged first and second screw threads to cause rotation of the leadscrew relative to the housing and hence axial movement of the leadscrew into the housing.

    • Provided is apparatus for removing a sheath from a pre-filled syringe. The syringe has a barrel and a needle, the sheath providing a sterile cover for the needle. The apparatus comprises a housing, for enclosing the syringe barrel defining an injection end with an aperture sized to allow the sheath of an enclosed syringe to protrude therethrough, and a syringe barrel mount for retaining the syringe in the housing. The mount is slidable axially within the housing between positions towards and away from the injection end of the housing. The apparatus also comprises a biasing means, for biasing the mount away from the injection end of the housing, and latching means for latching said mount in a latched position to prevent sliding of the mount away from the injection end of the housing. The latching means is releasable from the latched position, by sliding of the mount towards the injection end. Also provided is an injection device comprising said apparatus.
