    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To strengthen the mechanical gripping force of a lifter guide member relative to a cylinder head and certainly prevent the rotation of a following contactor and a direct strike-type valve lifter relative to a solid cam in a variable valve mechanism. SOLUTION: The direct strike-type valve lifter 10 is reciprocated, via the following contactor 21, by the solid cam 2 to open and close a valve. A guiding part 33 of the lifter guide member 30 is engaged with a guided part 27 on the inside of the valve lifter 10 to guide the reciprocation of the valve lifter 10, thereby preventing the rotation of the following contactor 21 and the valve lifter 10 relative to the solid cam 2. A spring seat part 31 for receiving a valve spring 6 is provided in the lifter guide member 30 and inserted into a recess 26 of the cylinder head 7. An engaging protruded part 35 is protrusively provided on an outer peripheral surface of the spring seat part 31, while an engaging recessed part 36 is formed on an inner peripheral surface of the recess 26. In this manner, by engagement between the protruded and recessed parts, the lifter guide member 30 is prevented from rotating relative to the cylinder head 7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve system which enhances mechanical retentivity of a lifter guide member with respect to a cylinder head and surely prevents rotation of a following contact and a direct striking type valve lifter with respect to a solid cam. SOLUTION: A direct striking type valve lifter 10 is reciprocated with a solid cam through the medium of a following contact 21 to open/close a valve. A guide part 33 of a lifter guide member 30 is engaged with a guided part 27 on the inside of the valve lifter 10, so as to guide the reciprocating movement of the valve lifter 10 and to prevent rotation of the following contact 21 and the valve lifter 10 with respect to the solid cam. A spring seat 31 for receiving a valve spring is provided to the lifter guide member 30, wherein an insertion part 35 is formed in the center part. The insertion part 35 is inserted into the valve guide 25. Mesh of serrations 36 and 37 provided to both the insertion part 35 and the valve guide 25 leads to prevention of rotation of the lifter guide member 30 with respect to the cylinder head 7. The internal combustion engine includes an electronic control unit 17 which is configured to, when the response of the hydraulic actuator 1 to a change in a duty command value shows that a duty command value of the oil control valve 6 is set in a small dead zone as compared with other command value range, reduce the discharge pressure of the variable oil pump 12 as compared with when not set.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve system for an internal combustion engine whose valve action angle, valve lift, and valve timing are continuously variable, in which degradation of starting performance is suppressed and a continued operation of the internal combustion engine is ensured even at an anomaly of the system. SOLUTION: Since oil pressure is dissipated at a start-up or at an anomaly of the system, the urging force of a spring 144 can press a pin 148a against a guide portion 130. The guide portion 130 can in turn set a lift varying actuator 100 in a condition to create a valve action angle and a valve lift other than minimum values. The valve action angle and the valve lift by the intake cam 45a can be set at appropriate values to ensure a sufficient intake air quantity.
