The outer peripheral surface of the center cutter plate part 2 and the inner peripheral surface of the outer peripheral cutter plate part 3 joined to the outer peripheral surface are formed in tapered surfaces inclining in a diameter enlarging direction backward from the front, and the jacking reaction applied to the front face of the outer peripheral cutter plate part 3 is positively received by the center cutter plate part 2 through the tapered faces during excavation. When recovering a boring machine body 10, the outer peripheral surface of the center cutter plate part 2 is smoothly detached from the inner peripheral surface of the outer peripheral cutter plate part 3.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of constructing widened tunnel by which a widened section having a prescribed extent can be constructed efficiently on one side of the main body section of a tunnel by exerting little bad influence upon the surrounding ground simultaneously with the excavation of the main body section of the tunnel by means of a shield machine.
      SOLUTION: The main body section and widened section of the tunnel are simultaneously excavated over the full length of the tunnel by means of the shield machine provided with a cutter head for excavating the main body section and a small-diameter cutter head for excavating the widened section on one side the cutter head. When the widened section is not constructed on one side of the main body section of the tunnel, the small-diameter cutter head is moved downward by rolling the shield machine and, at the same time, the widened section excavated by means of the small-diameter cutter head is filled up with a space stuffing material. When the widened section is constructed on one side of the main body section in a communicative state, the small-diameter cutter head is moved to the side section side of the main body section of the tunnel.
