    • The present invention relates to an optical recording medium comprising a substrate and a recording layer arranged on one side of the substrate, wherein the optical recording medium has a predetermined clamping area. According to the present invention, the clamping area is formed such as to achieve a deformation of or a tension in at least a part of the optical recording medium when it is clamped within a recording and/or reproducing device. In particular, the deformation or tension is present in an area or in the entire area of the optical recording medium which is located outside of the clamping area. The deformation or tension preferably results in a change of the relative position of the outer edges of the optical recording medium with respect to the clamping area. As a result, the optical recording medium may have a thinner thickness in the area of the recording layer (outside of the clamping area) of - for example - only about 0.6 mm or even less. In particular, the thickness Tj of the optical recording medium in an area outside of the clamping area is in the range between 0.4 to 0.7 mm.

    • The present invention relates to a storage element carrier (20) comprising a first part (21) with a storage element (30) and a second part (22) with an optical recording medium (10). The invention further relates to an optical recording medium (10) comprising a clamping area (1), a recording area (2) and an outer area (3) outside of the recording area (2). According to a first or second aspect of the invention a first elevated ring (4) or a first set of protrusions (4') respectively is located in the clamping area (1). According to a third aspect of the invention the thickness (T2) of the optical recording medium (10) in at least one part of the recording area (2) is smaller than the thickness (T1) of the optical recording medium (10) in the clamping area (1). According to a fourth aspect the thickness (T3) of the optical recording medium (10) in at least one part of the outer area (3) is greater than the thickness (T2) in the recording area (2).

    • The present invention relates to DVDs. According to the present invention, the recording layer is at least partially or entirely positioned at a distance T 7 of less than 0.4 mm with respect to the second surface. Therefore, when the optical recording medium of the present invention is clamped in a drive, the recording layer has a "higher" position than a recording layer of a known DVD. The layer structure of the inventive optical recording medium is a key feature of reducing the thickness of the disc in an area of the recording layer. In particular, a thickness T 1 of only 0.4 to 0.7 mm is possible while remaining the reliability of the optical recording medium (i.e. without reading problems in most or all drives). Further, it is achieved that the optical recording medium may have only one substrate, i.e. only one dies of polycarbonate, whereas the other side of the recording layer is only covered by a protective lacquer. With that, manufacturing of the inventive optical recording medium is facilitated and more cost-efficient.

    • An optical storage medium comprises at least one substrate, at least one information layer for storing data and at least one reactive substance. The reactive substance is an inorganic substance causing a chemical reaction with the information layer where H20 is either an initial or a final product of the chemical reaction. The at least one reactive substance may be arranged at least one spot or layer in contact whit the information layer. The readability of the optical storage medium may be adjustably limited by a temporally defined deterioration of the readability, more precisely of the reflectivity of the reflective information layer. The deterioration of the readability may be initiated by the first use of the inventive storage medium by a customer, said in other words the deterioration of the readability may be initiated by heat applied by the laser beam of a disc drive and/or the system temperature of the player. Therefore the deterioration of the readability depends on the time after the first use.
