    • A sealing member 14 has a main seal 15 and a sub seal 21. The sub seal 21 is integrally formed with a first connecting element 20 that extends from the main seal 15. The first connecting element 20 has an upper bent portion 23a and a lower bent portion 23b. The sub seal 21 is at a higher position than the main seal 15 due to the upper and lower bent portions 23a, 23b. The first connecting element 20 has a rib 24 that extends along a longitudinal direction of the first connecting element 20. An upper thick portion 26a and a lower thick portion 26b are formed on the upper bent portion 23a and the lower bent portion 23b of the first connecting element 20, respectively. The rib 24 and the upper and lower thick portions 26a, 26b improve the rigidity of the first connecting element 20.

    • A pressure sensor includes a housing with which terminals are insert-molded, a sensing element mounted on the housing and electrically connected to the terminals, an electrically insulating protective member for covering the terminals and the sensing element. The protective member has a triple-layer structure. The first protective member for covering the terminals has high elasticity to prevent bubbles from being produced in the protective member. The second protective member for covering the sensing element has low elasticity to reduce stress applied to the sensing element. The third protective member having higher acid resistance covers the second protective member so that the sensor has high acid resistance without sacrificing the sensor characteristics.

    • A sensor for detecting a quantity of light has a housing, which has an axis along a direction in which light enters with an azimuth of 0°. A right side photodetector is disposed on a left side of the axis, and a left side photodetector is disposed on a right side of the axis. A central photodetector is disposed on the axis with a sensitivity, which is lowered as compared to those of the right side and left side photodetectors. A right side light signal is obtained by outputs from the right side photodetector and the central photodetector, and a left side light signal is obtained by outputs from the left side photodetector and the central photodetector. Accordingly, an adverse effect by a positional shift between a shading member disposed above the photodetectors and the photodetectors is lessened.

    • A pressure sensor for detecting, e.g., an intake manifold pressure of an internal combustion engine is composed of a resin casing, a sensing member contained in the casing and conductor members embedded in the resin casing. The conductor members are disposed around the sensing member, and the sensing member is electrically connected to the conductor members by wire-bonding. Boundaries between the resin casing and the conductor members are sealed with an encapsulating member which is applied to the position at liquid state and dried thereafter. To prevent the liquid encapsulating member from flowing out of the applied position toward the sensing member, a bank is formed between the sensing member and the position where the encapsulating member is applied. A depressed portion for retaining the encapsulating member therein may be additionally formed next to the bank.
