    • A rotary head assembly is disclosed including a transducer for recording information on and reproducing information from a record medium. The transducer is resiliently supported by a resilient support member which, in turn, is secured to a transducer receiving structure, the latter being coupled to a rotary drive device for rotating the transducer about an axis of rotation to thereby permit information to be recorded on and reproduced from the record medium which is contacted by the transducer. In addition to resiliently supporting the transducer, the transducer receiving member also exerts a restraining force on the transducer which is opposite to the centrifugal force exerted thereon when the transducer is rotated.

    • An automatic tape loading and unloading device for a magnetic tape recording and/or reproducing apparatus includes a cylindrical tape guide drum having at least one rotary magnetic head which moves in a circular path substantially coinciding with the circumferential surface of the drum. The tape used in the apparatus is stored on supply and take-up reels having the tape wound thereon in a tape holder such as a cassette or cartridge and in use the holder positions the tape supply at a relatively lower level with respect to the tape guide drum. The device further includes a first tape engaging member, for example, tape guide pins, carried by levers which are rotatable about a fixed pivot to draw the tape from the tape supply reel in a diagonally upward direction to the tape guide drum where it is helically wrapped about at least a portion of the circumferential surface of the drum and a second tape engaging member to draw the tape from the tape supply reel in a horizontal direction opposite to the direction of movement of the first tape engaging member.

    • In a VTR for recording and/or reproducing video signals in parallel tracks extending obliquely on a magnetic tape which is wrapped helically on a guide drum, rotary magnetic heads are associated with the guide drum to move in respective circular paths which coincide with the guide drum surface and which are axially spaced apart on the latter so that the heads obliquely traverse respective longitudinal zones substantially equally dividing the width of the magnetic tape. The angular spacing between the heads and the angular extent of the guide drum surface about which the tape is wrapped are selected so that, when the heads are rotated for obliquely traversing the respective tape zones in a repeating cyclic order, the latter has at least one overlapping interval in which two of the heads simultaneously scan oblique tracks in the respective zones. In the reproducing mode of the VTR, signals reproduced by the heads from tracks in the respective zones and being scanned in the repeating cyclic order are sequentially combined and, during each overlapping interval, a comparator senses phase differences between signals reproduced by the two heads which are then simultaneously traversing the respective zones and provides a corresponding compared output. A head shift signal is generated in response to such compared output and is employed, for example, by application to a bimorph leaf mounting at least one of the heads, for displacing such head in a direction along the respective tracks scanned thereby so as to eliminate the phase differences.

    • An apparatus for recording and/or reproducing video signal information employs, as a record medium, a sheet assembly composed of at least two normally closely adjacent, confronting flexibly resilient sheets which provide mutual protection, when in that relation, for video signal information recorded, for example, magnetically, on at least one of the sheets. The recording and/or reproducing apparatus has a separator device which slidably receives the sheet assembly and separates or spreads apart substantial portions of the sheets, and the separated portion of each sheet which is adapted to have signal information recorded thereon is directed by respective sheet guides from the separator device in an arcuate path about a respective guide drum which has associated rotary transducers, for example, magnetic heads, so that, when the sheet assembly and the guide drum and transducers are moved relative to each other in the direction of the drum axis, for example, by displacement of the separator device and sheet guides, as a unit, relative to the guide drum, the rotary transducers scan successive parallel record tracks on the portion of sheet about the drum. Preferably, in recording video signal information on one of the sheets, the rate of movement of the sheet assembly relative to the respective drum and rotary transducers is selected so that there are no guard bands or gaps between the successive parallel tracks for enhancing the utilization of the sheet for recording purposes.When audio signal information is also to be recorded on, and reproduced from another of the sheets of the sheet assembly, the separated portion of such other sheet is also directed from the separator device about another guide drum having rotary transducers associated therewith, and the latter transducers are preferably rotated at a slower speed than the transducers for recording and/or reproducing the video signal information so that the transducers for recording and/or reproducing the audio signal information will scan spaced apart, parallel record tracks on the respective sheet portion.
