    • A resource management system is composed of a plurality of application programs, a resource management information database, and a resource manager. Each application program executes data transfer using resources. The resource management database stores resource management information and key information for each resource. Upon receipt of a resource use request from an application program, the resource manager judges whether the requested resource can be allocated to the application program by referring to the resource capacity and the currently-allocated volume of the resource that are included in the information database. If judging that the requested resource can be allocated, the resource manager gives authorization to the application program to use the resource. The resource manager also controls resource allocation by restricting a data transfer bandwidth used by an application program and requesting a resource release on expiration of the valid time period.

    • A coordinate input device is used in document processing to input user instructions including display coordinates of the display frame as specified by the user. A text block group control section controls a grouping of text to be displayed on the display frame, and includes a memory for storing a plurality of text characters, a block area storing section for storing information indicative of a plurality of rectangular display areas of the display frame each constituting a text block area, a text block specifying section for specifying text characters from among the plurality of text characters which are for display in each of plurality of rectangular display areas stored in the block area storing section, a text block display section for controlling the display of the text block areas stored in the block area storing section containing the text characters specified by the text block specifying section, and a text block group management section for designating a text block group containing one or more text block areas to be displayed by the text block display section.     • The present invention provides an inexpensive video editing system capable of combining three or more shots simultaneously, and a time-saving method thereof. The video editing system comprises a video storage device for storing a video including a plurality of shots, having a readout unit capable of reading out two shots simultaneously; a shot-reproduce information storage device for storing information as to a shot-readout sequence, a video effect device for combining two shots simultaneously, and a control device for detecting a range of frames where three or more shots to be simultaneously reproduced by referring to the shot-reproduce information, reading out two shots included in the range from the video storage device, combining the two shots at the video effect device, storing a resulting combined shot into the video storage unit, and reading out the combined shot and one of remaining shots in the range from the video storage unit to combine the combined shot and the one of remaining shots at the video effect device, the shot-combining of the combined shot and the remaining shot being repeated until there exists a single resulting combined shot in the range.
