    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for an optical film which contains a liquid crystal compound that is highly aligned and has a surface that is hardly scratched. SOLUTION: A film shaped molded body which is a mixture of liquid crystal polymer of a non-aligned condition and an photoreactive compound is prepared. Then, the film-shaped molded body is irradiated with light beams, the photoreactive compound is reacted, and thereby the molecular structure of the compound is changed so that the non-aligned condition liquid crystal polymer is aligned into a prescribed condition. Then, the film-shaped molded body is heated to the temperature which is equal to or higher than the temperature at which the liquid crystal polymer is put into a liquid crystal state, thereby the non-aligned condition liquid crystal polymer is aligned to the prescribed condition. Then, the film-shaped molded body is cooled to the temperature that is lower than the temperature at which the liquid crystal polymer is set into a liquid crystal state, and the aligned condition is fixed, to obtain the optical film that includes a highly aligned liquid crystal compound.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase difference plate which is superior in adhesion between a transparent base material and an optical isotropic layer and has superior manufacture efficiency, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The phase difference plate includes the optical isotropic layer 14 on the transparent base material 10, and is characterized in that the optical isotropic layer 14 is arranged on the transparent base material 10 through a surface improving layer 11, the optical isotropic layer 14 contains a regularly arranged liquid crystal compound, and the surface improving layer 11 is a layer stopping the liquid crystal alignment restricting force of the transparent base material 10 from extending to the optical isotropic layer 14. The phase difference plate has the improved adhesion between the transparent base material 10 and optical isotropic layer 14 since the surface improving layer 11 is provided. Further, a transparent base material having a liquid crystal alignment restricting force and a transparent base material having no liquid crystal alignment restricting force are both usable as the transparent base material 10, so that choices of transparent base materials increase and the manufacture efficiency is superior.
